I have also always wanted a Corvette and it turns out that at this point in life I could make my own wish come true and I chose a C5 with no regrets. If I had chosen a gen. 1 Camaro I know people wouldn’t ask if it was a midlife issue. Any way I have stopped explaining myself to people and just say yea, it’s a midlife issue and move on. If it was a midlife issue it wouldn’t be any of their business anyway. I also hear “well you are lucky you don’t have kids…” I am not lucky that way, I find it quite unfortunate, but that’s how it went for me and it is what it is. I bought this car for my enjoyment and not for what people think and I sure wouldn’t say “is that your midlife crisis..”
Live your own life and dont listen to what other people say. As long as you arent hurting anyone, its no one's business what you do with your money. Enjoy the great C-5!

I am on Corvette #48 for me over the last 53 years. I have heard it all over those years. Guess what? Who cares what others say. Drive what you want and enjoy it. I have owned over 400 vehicles and can drive anything but choose a C5 as my favorite toy. This one is my 1998 with original paint and 160,000 miles.

There's lots of things you can say or do. I usually smile and say "Sure is". They aren't worth getting worked up over.
I could say, "it must be nice to work a 40 hour week, I have worked 60 plus for most of my life, and this is my reward!"

Lovely! And with 160K, it's obvious that you get out and ENJOY it!

Just a year ago Monday, I bought my first Corvette, a C5 Vert with 35K. I went straight to work on that lack of mileage, and I've got the odo up to 62K (yes, 27,000 miles in the first year!)

I've driven twice across the USA, first from Atlanta to Las Vegas after Easter with my folks there, then went to Chicago in September and drove Historic Route 66 end-to-end.

I've driven through 28 of the Lower 48 States, and took the Intro to High-Performance Driving course at the NCM track in Bowling Green; that convinced me that HPD isn't my cup of chai.

And I finished that year with my Pewter Bullet on-display with the Corvette Club of America's cars at the Washington, DC Auto Show. That's living the dream, too!

Next big trip will be to Atlanta in April, to spend Easter with my folks there, and then hopefully getting down to Florida for some scuba-diving. (Hope my gear will fit in the trunk!)

It's not just the Corvette. I had a Jaguar XType. Read that again. The simplest, least expensive car I'm sure Jaguar ever made. Based on a Ford Mondeo. But, people saw a Jaguar and often commented "how did you afford that". People see a Corvette, Jaguar, Porsche and just assume you blew your life savings. Most folks are woefully uninformed and jealous. I'm 67. Been fortunate that the majority of folks have just said nice car. Just ignore the jealous and enjoy the daylights out of your car.

My first Vette was at 26. If it was a midlife crisis, I'm just about done.

Be of good cheer, Coyote.

I met Steve Stone in Ohio, last September -- he bought a brand new 1963 Stingray convertible as a teenager. Almost sixty years later, he's put more than 600,000 miles on that car.

(IIRC, he did say it is on its fourth engine.)

You should be able to fit your gear in the trunk with no issues. I envy all the great trips you've been able to take.

So I guess that means I have only one more year left Guess I better start driving more and more and more

I got my C5 almost 8 years ago when I was 44. I had wanted one since they came out but I was never financially able to. So for me it really didn’t have much to do with a “midlife crisis”.

That being said, a long-time friend calls it “the midlife crisis mobile” just about every time I pull up in it. Whatever.
