Headlight Alignment
I noticed two brass thingys with a star head on them. Which one does what? I'd like a little more elevation.
There are a whole bunch of threads on headlight adjustment, the take away point (other than aiming them correctly, which I cant describe in detail, search, you'll find a very detailed thread) is that:
If you are not very very careful, you stand a very good chance of either stripping the gears on the adjustment rods or breaking them all together. Not the end of the world, but you will need another light assembly, you cant just replace the gears or rods.
Its not rocket science, but you just have to be careful. Take off the whole bezel/surround (the black plastic that goes around the light, not just the plug in the hole, its only three screws). WD40 the hell out of the gears at the far end of the adjustment rods. Then just (slowly) work them back and forth, a little at a time. After a while, they should free up and move nicely.
Now having said all that.
Pretty sure the one along the short side of the housing (accessed from the front) does elevation.

Be very careful not to strip the adjuster. Junkman posted a how to replace the adjuster and there are some pics in herehttp://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...ght=golden+rod
Here's my How To:
Aiming Stock Headlights
Preparation
Chose a white wall to project the lights onto
Mark a vertical centreline on the screen in line with the center of the car (black tape?)
(look over the roof of the car to get the line)
Measure the height from the floor to the center of the headlight capsule
Mark a horizontal aiming line on the screen
Measure the distance between the centreline of the right headlight module and the center of the left headlight module.
Position the vertical tapes this distance to the right and left of the screen centreline
Lubricate the adjustment screws before adjusting
Adjustments
Raise the hood
Raise the headlights
Remove the headlamp adjustment screw plug
Turn on the low beam headlights and block the light from projecting onto the screen from the passenger headlight

Check the horizontal aim
Adjust the horizontal aim adjusting screw to align the left edge of the high intensity zone with the headlight vertical centreline
The left edge of the beam should lie within 4” to the left and 4” to the right
of the vertical centreline.
Check the vertical aim
Adjust the vertical aim adjusting screw to align the top edge of the high intensity zone with the headlight horizontal centreline
The left edge of the beam should lie within 2” above and 2.5” below the lamp horizontal centreline.
Reinstall the headlamp adjustment screw plug
Repeat for the other headlight
Turn off the lights and close the hood
This is the pattern you're looking for

I got a complete unit from a Chevy dealer in New York, shipped to California, for about $40. My wife's Grand Prix with the projector-type lights, and the company Ford Fusion, can't be aimed with it. Everything else can. Just be careful with the adjusters, as noted.
If in doubt, search for "Hoppy+headlight" on google/yahoo/ms search and see what you think.
