Escort and Valentine both have made great detectors over the years. I've had both.. Your eyes are the best radar detector period.. People don't realize it, 99% of us drive drive like a horse with blinders on.. Your focal point needs to be 15 seconds ahead of where you are while driving this way when you come close to a hill or curve you will see cars hit the breaks(cops) well before you get there. The Key is to SCAN your ENTIRE field of vision Also pay attention to traffic going the opposite direction.. Someone will flash their lights letting you know a cop is ahead. Check the top of bridges and over passes.. Cops radar from these places and have backup further down the road. These are a few habits to get into for everyone.. Cops around here in Dallas do random shots with the radar gun on/off between shots.. NO radar detector will defend you in these cases
i cant stress this enough. My only ticket is due to late night, and *** on my bumper through a corner. Cop tried to hit me up for street racing. (porsche vs 6cyl rustang.) instead nailed me for 25 over in a 35. (its a recommended 35, 45 zone). I got it knocked to 5 over but still...
my fav is seeing the cop and then watching others realize WAAAAY too late that they are speeding.
people dont pay attention. Hell ive seen a cruiser trying to get past someone have to use their light bar before the guy would move over for faster traffic. (going 5 under in the fast lane does not fly with me either...)
At my old home town, the cops just got a new set of the latest and greatest laser. They sit on a bridge overpass and hit cars 2 miles away. They sit on one side of the bridge and radio their buddies on the onramp the speed and car and zap your ticketed. They get you when your past the overpass heading away from them. its crazy to see how many ppls they catch.
My hatred of the boys in blue runs real deep and I choose to express that towards them every chance I get.
This goes for patrol officers only and not detective level officers as they bust real criminals.
Once they stand up and denounce things like photo radar they will get a little more respect to name one issue.
You're a "sick puppy"....I've never been a LEO, but I did run Rescue for 22 years, and I've worked closely with some great traffic LEO's, while some "young rookies" may need to be broken in, the majority of the LEO's are hard working and put their life on the line every day that they mark 10-8 on the radio...They have a very unappreciated job...Hopefully, you'll never be in an accident, trapped inside a burning auto, and have a LEO first on scene....You may be eating your hatred words.

If you only knew how many "real criminals" get arrested everyday by patrol officers working traffic.
Those "real criminals" all drive between their "jobs" and they're usually not driving very well. DUI, outstanding warrants, narcotics, child/spousal abuse, rapists, burglars/thieves of all things not theirs...maybe yours!

Thanks for answering my, "Why?" question. I was simply curious.
I'm not a LEO (close to a few) and I was trying to understand the motivation.
I know around 180 or so LEOs were killed last year, a lot at traffic stops. I may not like one of the thing they do (regarding speeding tickets ), but I do respect the people in the uniform. I know if I'm in trouble they will be there to help and protect me.
To each his own and may your "hatred" not burn you inside.
+/- 2 mph from Kustom electronics thats what they say moving radar is good so if ur doing 65 then r u doing 63 or 67 or what!! attys use this and it works seen it in court tons of time it throws off the credibility of the units..... also the tuning forks if used on new units then drove it and compared to the same radars patrol speed and low and behold the calibrated speedo says one thing and the radar says another........ sevral mph off.....radar is not full proof lazar is!!!
Trust me, I can vouch for that. If the cruiser has his radar on all the time while driving, then the radar detector works great, but more and more I find cops using the hand held units and you can't detect them until it is too late. I have been beaten into submission by the local LEOs so now I drive the speed limit. :o
if you know how to drive intelligently and use a device like the V1 you can avoid speeding tickets. But like a fighter pilot you also need situational awareness. I avoid tickets at least 2 to 3 times a week because of my V1 but it's not a standalone solution. Also, Laser is only one that can pinpoint your vehicle in a pack and there is no way to avoid except if another vehicle is shot. Don't separate from the pack and you should be ok. Considering cost of ticket in Southern California with traffic school and higher insurance surcharge $400 is bargain that paid for itself in 2001 when it went off the first time.

I'm truly sorry you've either had bad or frustrating experiences with patrol officers, or if you know someone who has. There are a few guys and gals in blue or for that matter, tans (as in CA) or other colored uniforms who have given highway law enforcement a less than stellar name. On the other side of the coin, there are a vast majority of patrol officers who are decent people and treat others (including violators) as they themselves wish to be treated. If someone who gets stopped doesn't behave like a total jerk to the cop chances are good he or she might give the person a break.

I would be willing to bet that the majority of those "detective level officers" were patrol officers at one time and because they did such a good job at being a patrol officer, they eventually were rewarded/promoted to that position because of their hard working ethics.
I'll venture to say, that you are one of those "entertaining" traffic stops.
I have top of the line V1 in my C5. It has worked well for me so far.
Everybody speeds INCLUDING LEOs. I know a bunch who have street raced me in the past but that is another story. I am normally very careful when I speed. I just got pulled over in my daily driver last Friday for 74 in 55. I was lucky because seconds before that I was doing triple digits. My last speeding ticket before that was in 2000. I asked the officer politely if I could be given a warning instead. Nothing. He was adament. I know they have more important things to do so I did not waste his time. On Monday, my attorney took care of the matter. So last speeding ticket I got was still back in 2000. I love how the system works.
I have the Escort Solo II and it's saved me a number of times driving between SF and Las Vegas. It's battery operated(no wires to hookup, and they last about 3 months), front and rear detection, and a lot less than the V1.
come on guys as a retired LEO traffic is a MINOR thing as a former big city houston cop traffic was the least thing on my agenda , unless ur a state highway patrol and thats all they do, with 20 calls on the mdi beeping at you, as long as noone passed me ran a light/ stop in front of me i didnt care and most of us didnt too busy with REAL crime to worry with that!!! unless ur a highway patrol
In California, they only use the point and shoot guns on city streets, and they're tough to beat.
The CHP use the always on type and my Valentine does a good job picking them up.
If you want to roll the bones, get a radar jammer. They knock out everything, but they're illegal.
I'm not sure how you'd get caught though. Seems to me if a cop got a no-read, he'd chalk it up to a malfunction.
