Just wondering how many of you have used ramps in your garage to get under your car. Are they safe? How hard is it to drive up on them without overshooting, and what's the secret for doing it right?
Where did you get yours and how expensive are they?
Thanks for all replies.
Michael
I've used wooden, home-made ramps for 41 years. Last year I made a better set - a set of fine Mike Mercury ramps. MM himself has given you the link already. Safe? I trust 'em with my life and I'm still here to talk about it. Overshooting? You've got to be doing silly things to overshoot them. It's quite leisurely getting up and onto them. I can't imagine anyone overshooting them.
I made modifications to the MM design (I think everyone did whose pics are on his site; mine are) and made wheel chocks. The rear ones are removable and the screws drop into enlarged holes. After all, if you drive on the ramps and then jack up the back end, the parking brake or the transmission parking pawl isn't doing anything when the rear wheels leave the floor! I don't want my car rolling backwards off the ramps
I have a set of the gray Rhino Ramps from Walmart and they work just fine. Thres a little slip trying to get on initially but a small piece of wood to get over the lip cures that. Providing you take it slowly there should be no risk of overshoot.
Once the cars up its rock solid.
They cost a massive $35
I use my Rino's all the time. Just drive up SLOW in LOW

If you're at the stock ride height rhino ramps work just fine. just make sure you have somebody guide you on and try not to stop halfway up so u dont have to goose it to make it the rest of the way.
I built these and have been using them for a couple of years with NO problems.I tested them out ( before I put my C-5 on them) by putting a 4 door F-250 Deisel truck on them .The air dam slightly touches the ramps and also works fine with a C-6 . I highly recommend these ! Thanks again Mike !
I built a set from Mike Mercury's web page. Cost me about $30. I use them all the time. To keep them from slipping on the garage floor, I place an old towel under each ramp before I drive up. They have never slipped with this method.
