Sometimes another modification requires a wheel change...like bigger brakes. I had the wagon wheels(bought car brand new) on my 98' coupe and bought the painted aluminum 2000 stock wheel when I got bigger rotors as it pushed the caliper outward and wouldn't clear with the WW.
I then went even bigger with the Wilwood 6/4 set-up...which barely clears the 2000 wheel standard 5-spoke wheel.
I don't dislike the WW completely, but its function is limited with other mods.
I am amazed at how many have been replaced with heavier aftermarket "bling jewelry" with inferior build quality. Real Corvettes don't wear jewelry. If you have the insatiable need to make your Vet "pretty" (very subjective when it comes to wheels from what I have seen on this forum), at least go with one with equivalent build quality and no heavier. This is a sports car first and foremost.
Engineered with the perfect offset, lighter, lower unsprung weight = better handling, technically a very sound design.
The fact that the wagons are lighter is the reason I still have them. Now mine are a bit heavier as they are chomed and still have the EMTs on, but most aftermarket wheels are pretty heavy. I do like the look of the RUFF 281s in chrome though....
Do you happen to have close ups of these wheels. Where did you get those decals, or whatever they are? They may make my chromes look even better....Thanks
