Default Ignorant people

I suppose this belongs in ZR1 discussion, but I never go there so I will try my luck there. Some of the comments are pure ignorance from people that have probably never owned a corvette.

My C5 is the most economical car i have owned.

http://www.popularmechanics.com/auto...s/4278606.html

Some comments from the site(particularly 3,4,6.7 and 17:

1. I miss my Vette. If you ever get one, dont do something stupid and get rid of it at the wifes nagging! RD
2. Is it just me, or does the top of the hood look like a perfect fit for a "Transformers" emblem. A little foreshadowing from GM to blast this model all over the next movie probably.
3. In the age of limited natural resources, high gas prices, and concern for safety, this car is out of sync. Buying this car for sport is like saying an M-16 is the ideal weapon for home protection. Barbaric!
4. Same old american super cars... A bullet down a straight line but can't corner to save its life.
5. Awesome machine. But that interior is such a let-down. Still looks just like the 1998 camaro. The dash, speedo cluster, seats and more are from a 10 year old parts bin. That is frustrating.
6. If you buy an American made sports car, well, you're an idiot...
7. what's the MPG? Why not Hybrid?
who cares about this car, when we are running out of oil. It's really dumb to think that this is a good car to buy at this moment in time. Leave it to chevy to continue to waste time on useless cars like this. They'll regret it. This decade is critical.
8. Wow! just look at that beautiful plastic interior. It's such a let down to see that we haven't learned. Great performance but it falls short due to the little details. All in all I would go with the Nissan GTR. Besides, any newer Corvette is synonymous with Mid-Life Crisis.
9. re: comment 4 - the Corvette has set the standard for skidpad g's for years - better cornering than almost any car in the world. re: comment 3 - 27 mpg isn't exactly a gas-guzzler now is it?? You really should know something about a car before you start bashing it.
10. an M16 for home defense? Now that's my kind of thinking. Sign me up. I'll take 2 vetts and the M16 as soon as they are available
11. Website: http://wiki.openice.org
Some pretty lame comments here. @#4: read the article, watch the video, he explains how well this thing corners in detail. @6: you have the most worthless comment ever. Please explain your argument next time so you don't just look like an A--hole. @7: two words: Chevy Volt. You're going to get great performance and you'll never have to buy gas again. ...even if we have only several trillion tones of oil left (yet somehow we will be out in the next decade). @8: while I agree that GM's technology package can be greatly improved and the GTR definitely has this met, the ZR1 pwns the GTR in speed and agility. So it's a tradeoff, interior, or power/performance. If you really want to argue, many feel much discomfort in the GTR for regular street driving. ZR1 may be more comfortable in this respect.
12. Its quite silly, no one is running out of oil. There is plenty in the world to have everyone driving gas guzzlers for 100's of years. But for the cost of it all, alcohol would be a good complement to oil based fuels. Since all plant and plant material can generate alcohol. Go performance vehicles, power and speed always! Good for you GM, never back down US auto's are far superior.
13. I only see one comment here that is actually based on reality (that would be comment #1). Nice job GM, show the world that you can compete and BEAT any elite car manufacturer. This is a cornering and HP monster that does not need to make any excuses. We are not running out of oil, and for the given HP, this car gets better fuel economy than most any 6cyl turbo car out there, not to mention that it ROMPS them on performance.
14. The ZR1 is one of the best cornering machines made- it's spanked the Nissan GTR at Nürburgring. Kudos to both Nizzan and GM for making kick *** cars that call into question the rationality of buying anything German.
15. 75 mph limit on the turnpike, so WTF is this thing for?
16. What the hell is wrong with an M-16? Please keep these lame brain liberals off of the website. ZR1 rocks!
17. Uhum, to #9- I havent seen many cars that top the redneck factor as much as a 96 camaro, but this one takes the cake. Look at that, umm plastic 'thing' on/under the hood that makes the supercharger obvious. Im sure you could pick up some bleach-blonde-spandex-wearing bimbo down at the local bar by pulling up in that monstrosity. The interior looks like an early 90's honda prelude. This car is hideous. At least they're keeping our US plastic makers in business. M3 is the way to go. I dont care if it wont rumble and spin tires at every intersection to show how big your d**k is, at least the M3 has some class.
18. Kind of makes my 430 HP Vette look wimpy.
19. @14: If you think the ZR1 "spanked" the GT-R around the Ring, you are wrong. It beat it by 3 seconds. Now, this may seem like a lot, but the ZR1 has 158 more horsepower, and weighs 500 pounds less then the GT-R and it still only managed to get around the track 3 seconds faster? Don't get me wrong the ZR1 is an amazing car and so is the GT-R, but the ZR1 as it sits right now is not that much better then the GT-R and it costs $30,000 more. Do you really think that each second faster around the ring is work $10,000?
20. Wow..Alot of ignorance here. In order to save time, I am going to parrot comment #11. I have a 97 that I have modified to 520HP. Before modifications, I could get close to 30 MPG on the higheay. I still get 26 MPG on the highway. When driven conservatively it is a pretty economical car. As far as interior, it is a trade off. Compare the performance to other supercars and then compare price. It's all about bang for the buck. While it is a bit plasticy, it is very comfortable. This comment is based on an 11 year old car. I can only imagine the improvements made on this particular model.
21. Great. More ignorant generic anti-american spew... from americans. Learn to accept it, GM is getting turned around in a very big way. For the GTR fans: accept what everyone else has, including the GT-R owners, the test cars that put up epic numbers were souped up ringers. Test cars ran mid to low 11's in 1/4 miles @ the mid 120s, production cars are doing high 11's to low 12's and rarely reaching 120. The GT-R also comes with an abusive on-road ride, is much more of a gas guzzler than any Corvette, and part of its nice performance on tracks is alot of tire-killing negative camber dialed into the stock alignment. A great car, yes, but alot of smoke and mirrors and hardly a world-beater. And lastly, Corvettes are easily the most fuel-efficient cars with anything even rmeotely close to their performance levels. And basically always have been. Anti-american autopilot braindead people unhappy with their own lives and trying to make everybody else in this country as miserable as they are ... cute guys, but its so 90's. Please move on.

Tell us how you really feel

Seriously though, I chuckle when read or hear people who obviously don't know jack about cars in general and Corvettes in particular put down something about a car they don't drive, have never driven and may never, ever drive.

I don't let what the pundits say about the Corvette bother me. Its a car and I drive it

I happen to agree with #3.

I have attended 15 track events. Considering how many sports cars there are around very few people ever go to the track and really learn how to drive their car.

Regarding comments about the ZR1, the only thing that matters is if the owner's who pay the $$$ are happy. Personally, I am looking forward to racing one.

That's exactly how I feel about the eonomical side of it. More than likely if you are paying the price of a ZR1, you aren't that concerned with mileage anbd probably not going to be driving it much anyway. They act like most owners are going to use this car as a daily driver.

Very true and if they can afford a ZR1, then the price of gas is not really a top concern.

I have three vehicles... MDX (21 MPG highway), RX330 (25 MPG), 600 HP C5 (26 MPG). My most economical car, when I drive the speed limit is the Vette.

I try not to get too steamed at these comments.

How would you feel if you had spent the same money for a European car, that doesn't quite match up to the Corvette performance wise?

You'd probably attack the interior. The logic is, "My Porsche was worth it, because of intangibles."

As far as the GT-R crowd, they are constant lurkers on the internet. I ignore all of those posts, because none them actually own the car. These remind me of the ricers in my town that are constantly trying to race my Corvette...

It's the electronic version of, "Nice Corvette. I drive a small sedan. I bet a Ferrari is faster than your Corvette." (Sometimes, they substitute, Ferrari with Camaro or Mustang...blah.)

Let's get straight, though, a Nissan GT-R cannot be purchased for $65k. I looked it up online, most people seem to be asking between $90k and $115k for one.

Honestly, I look at the GT-R, ZR-1, and Z06 and really, I think the best bang for the buck is still the base C6!

I'd rather have a car with a huge trunk that gets 30 mpg on the highway and offers open air driving for all models. Not to mention 75% or 80% of the performance for far less money than any of those cars.

Leroy - there are always going to be uninformed ignoramuses that spout their uninformed and unsolicited opinions every chance they get. What you've shown us is an example of that.

There are jealous haters that will jump up and think they are demonstrating how smart they are or how cool they are if they are given a soapbox from which they will preach their hatred or stupidity.

Pay no attention to them, and you'll be happier. If you deprive them of the one thing they crave - attention....they will fade back into the shadows and wait for the next opportunity.

The Corvette has been around since 1953. It never has been a car for everyone, and never will be. But it is the car for us and no one can take that away. Enjoy your dream machine and I'll enjoy mine....

It's kind of like when someone says to me, "Hey, you're okay, I don't care what anybody else says about you".

To which I reply, "Well that makes two of us".

I learned long time ago that as long as you know what your are about, I don't care what dumbasses say about me.

"Think" what you want because I "know".

And I know this car is greatness.

I left a comment, copied below, on there specifically for #17....i believe its pronounced do-maas

Way to go comment number 17 and add to the perception that german sports car drivers are snooty idiots who dont know jack about cars. The M3 is an awesome car, and id love to have an e46...even though its nowhere near as fun to drive as my C5 ZO6. Last time i checked BMW just beefed up the M3 and threw a V8 in it and gave it a much louder exhaust to help with your 4 inches of insecurity. and yes, that sure as hell is a supercharger on display...you gonna start bashing ferrari, maker of some of the most beautiful machines on earth, for displaying their works of art?...of course you probably have no idea what im talking about

Jim

I'm not the kind of person to get upset over something like this. I just find it funny that people make comments based on their own misconceptions as if they know what they are talking about.

It's just as well...these are the same people that sholdn't own a Corvette anyway.

You certainly don't hear, "Oh, look at that Nissan", or "Oh, look at that Toyota", but you will get that with the Corvette. One of the few cars on the road today, that can elicite that response, no matter what year it is. If no response, it'll still get a glance. It seems the wow factor will always be associated with this car.

The uninitiated will always be ignorant and that's just the way it is. Enjoy your Corvette.
