Default no internal temperature sensor?

I just took my dash out to install an ipod cable and a turn signal, and in the process I never noticed an internal temperature sensor! I know it's supposed to be here behind the little slotted pop-off cover:

But when i popped off that cover there was no sensor there, and i couldn't see one anywhere else under the dash where it might have come loose and been laying somewhere.

What should I do now? My AC works well on long trips, but on short trips is not really that great, I usually just roll the windows down. Could this be why? it's a '99 fwiw...

Thats the inside air temperature sensor

Without that the HVAc has no reference for setting the temperature

Easy to replace

I can see part of it in that pic...... kind of looks like a small capacitor. should be a small two wire mini plug in the back. you'll have to removed the panel under the column to replace it. not a big deal

Off the top of my head, i believe if you have the manual controls (2 ***** instead of the digital climate control) then the car wont have a inside air temp sensor?

I know the 99 FRC doesn't have an inside sensor. What model are you running?

I believe you are right. My manual single zone HVAC (3 *****) doesn't have an inside air temp sensor... didn't see it when I had my dash apart. It was my understanding that only dual zone climate controls (digital temp screen) needed the sensor too.
