Ultimate light upgrade thread...
After reading about LED lights, the LED bug has bitten me hard too (swelling hasn't gone done yet
). Still debating on straight amber LED turn signals (because I still like the amber DRLs) and the switchbacks. With those, I will go to the clear corners, but does anyone sell the clear lenses with black housings? But what good is all that without upgrading the headlights too...
OK, to the point. Still have the stock 9006 & 9005 bulbs. I would like to try the Sylvania Silverstar Ultras. Direct swap - no muss, no fuss.
I have read about the Toshiba HIRs. These seem to be favored over the Silverstars. I found a vendor selling them for $25/piece. Is the life expectancy about the same as the SS? Are they really better than the SS Ultras?
One question I do have, it seems like some are installing the high beam bulbs in the low beam socket. What direct benefit are you getting? I would think that a high beam is a more focused beam, reaching farther, but losing side-to-side visibility. I read the HIRs need to be trimmed to fit. Is that only if you put the high beam in the low socket?
Also, it seems the HID guys are using the HID only for the low. What do you use for the highs?
Are these aftermarket HIRs or HIDs illegal in NC?
I really don't want to go the HID route, but feel free to put in your HO, $0.02, etc. so that all who read can make a good comparison.

send me a PM if you have any questions about anything you see.

SS are better than stock,
HIRs are better than SS,
HIDs BLOWS both away by far,
and the ultimate is a ACA HID/projector kit.
Once you go to HID lows, you will never need/use your high beams again
Spend $99 and go HID.......

jdmvette, check your inbox for PM, definitely have a few questions.
I will do LED brake/tail lights too, maybe not halos though like jdmvette and cdg2000c5. And I am running a LED strip under the doors as well. I'm also upgrading the interior lights with LEDs, just the main 4 for right now, but adding some LED strips in the hatch area.
Come on, that can't be all who wants to show off those new lights!!

Doing just fine with the low/fog HID combination. I am gonna change the High Beam to HID and install projector kit this fall.
Also, I went with the amber LED tower for my DRL's Thought about the Switchback (ordered the amber from [I]autolumination.com[I] but I really like the amber.

Still working on getting the digital camera to take clear pics at night or I'd post up. I've gone to ultra white LED's in all the exterior lights including the back-ups and license plate lights (except the DRL's) and they are nearly identical in color to the 6000k HID's in my fogs and low beams. I also have the RadioFlyer Mod Halo's. I really like the look and honestly, pics don't do them justice.
Seems you've done your homework and thought things out. Go for it and have fun.
Gonna look sahweet with that blue 03!Aloha

To all with the Halos, how do you have them wired? Just the rings for parking lights and the centers for turn/brake?
Just when I thought it was safe, I see something else I want!!

Thanks to all for the post and info.
I'll post pics of the transformation as I go.

every exterior light is either LED or HID.
HID high, low, and fog lights.
amber LED tower lights in the front turn signals & corner lights. custom modified front signal lights, disabled DRL's full time DRL's when ever the parking lights are on.
diamond cut/clear lenses all around; halo LED tail lights;
LED reverse lights
LED front running lights, Audi R8 style white LED strips in the front and LED flood lights mounted in the area of the stock export parking lights.
most of these lights are also wired up to be strobes as well! I have a video of how it looks but I don't have it up loaded yet. this way I can use them as part of my security system. (Anyone want to see?)
hatch area light housings retrofitted with festoon LEDs in blue. added 2 additional light housings off to the side to really add light.
LED festoon bulbs in the map lights
white LED strip lights for the floor lights.
waterproof water LED strip lights as puddle lights attached under the doors.
blue LED panel lights in the door controls etc.
Certainly more on the way!
