Default Car cover

Has anyone found a car cover that stays ON the car even in high winds, without damaging the paint?

Sometimes I MUST leave my car somewhere and lo and behold a bird always takes a dump on it.

I have to store my Vette outside. It is black, and I have been covering it for three years now. At first, I caused a lot of swirl marks with my cover. After some advice from this forum and some experience I found a way to avoid them. It's not an easy chore.......

1) The car should be clean when the cover is put on. Dirt between any cover and the paint is at best like polishing compound and at worst like sandpaper.

2) Secure the cover to the car. It should be custom fit for your car. I have a cover that is snug in the front and the rear, then I have a strong bungee holding it tight in the middle. I have yet to see it "flapping" in the wind. If it moves in the wind, it will rub on the paint and.......

3) Mine is not a daily driver, so I get to drive it on the weekend, then I wash it and cover it until the next time. I even went so far as to use a soft indoor cover, followed by a good outdoor cover. I have yet to uncover mine with this system, when it hasn't looked as good as when the cover went on.

I use a CoverCraft "dustop" cover as the soft underneath cover.

I have used a CoverCraft "weathershield" as the outdoor cover but wasn't totally impressed with it's lack of durability.

I currently use a CoverKing Autobody Armor cover. It feels far superior to the CoverCraft cover and I would try it without the "dustop" underneath. It feels that soft and pulls that snug.

Good Luck with whatever you decide to do.........

My biggest question is about #2....

Doesn't the bungee itself scratch the paint when the wind picks up? This is what I'm concerned about. I suppose I could put something around the bungee.

The worst that has happened to my Noah Wolf cover during high (not hurricane) winds was the rear corner flipped up. It is a perfect fit and lasts many years (over 4 for the one I have now). The eyelets and cord that can tie together the two sides will be underneath the car, so it is unlikely the sides will get scratched.

I use the Intro-Guard with the custom strap tie down system. Comes with that system, a cable and lock, also a storage bag. Lifetime Warranty. Go for free shipping at Custom Auto Accessories. They are a dot com. HTH

I've found that most covers seem to cause more harm than good.

I believe it is.

Regarding the benefits of a car cover: Take a look at almost any red car that sits out in the sun all day for years. Also take a look at the inside leather surfaces. Okay, now look at my car. It sits in CA sun all day for at least three-four days a week. The paint and leather is perfect. No one can believe I have a 7+ year old car.

Car covers DO make a difference!
