My wife and I are in Daytona Beach, FL for my Mom's 90th Birthday today.
Last night I drove my Vette to the old folks home where she lives and parked right at the front entrance to wait for her to come out.
An Old Codger sitting inside got up and, using his cane, came out the main door and slowly walked up to my right window.
He said "Your Vette looks great! How much do you want for it?"
"Two Million dollars" I responded.
He laughed and said, " I bought my first Vette in 1953 and got a new one every two years until I moved in here and sold my last one, a C-4. Your Vette must be the first one I have seen in 10 years or so. It brings back fond memories."
We talked for awhile until my Mom arrived and he told me he was 96 years old.
Cool story!
A gentleman that attends all the local cruise ins and shows gets a new vette every 3-4 years. His 05 vert has 40K on the clock now, and he's about ready to trade it in on an 09. Not bad for 90 years old! And don't even think about getting in front of him on the highway man! That old right foot of his must be heavy.
I live here in Daytona Beach as well for the past 30 years. Had to move my mother in law down here from PA back in March 2006 and had her in the Riveria ALF in Holly Hill. She used to tell everyone there that her DIL owned a Ferrari and it got to the point that I stopped correcting her after awhile. God bless her soul, she has since passed away. I still get a little chuckle everytime I think about her saying that.
Next time you visit your Mom you should take along a model Vette for the old fella (either a C5 painted like yours, or a C4 - his last model). You'd make his year.
BTW: Hook him up with your Mom, what a cool new step-Dad.
