Also, in one thread, someone said they snapped the rear lower shock bolt when attempting to torque to 162ft-lb. I'm no expert, but man that seems like a helluva lot of torque! Is this accurate, I would think 75-100 would do the trick? Do you have to replace these bolts when replacing the shocks?
I'm about to do the same, just bought some Bilstein Sports.
Same here, my Bilstein's should be here on Monday. I plan on following those how-to's too. But I hope I don't have any problems if I subsitute Bud Light instead of Corona though.....
Just installed the Bilstein shocks on my 2002 ZO6. Followed the directions listed above (fuzzydiceracing). Everything worked as diagramed. I did reuse the bolts on the rear shocks and didn't have any problem torqueing them to 162 lbs/ft. Use strong ties , the thin ones will break.
Following the steps in the 2nd link will get the job done. But you could make the job a little less work by just using a pry bar to compress the front shocks, instead of using a jack and all those zip ties. Once the bolts are removed from the front shocks just insert a pry bar under the bottom of the shock pry it up until compressed (holding it in the compressed position) and just wiggle it out. If you have a 2nd person it's easier but I did it myself without any help.
