You'll get slightly less mpg with the automatic (mainly due to the tranny gearing), but high 20's on the highway and 20-22 in town should not be unreasonable.
I have a 2002 Z06 and a 99 A4 coupe with a 3:15 perf. axle ratio.
I consistently get 26~27mpg on the road with the coupe, compared to 28~29 in the Z.
In town, the difference is less pronounced - we get 17~18 in the coupe and 18~19 in the Z - but I do drive the Z a bit harder than I do the coupe in town.
Ill check my glove box to see what kind of gears i have. ill assume its the 2.73 because i do notice that it needs a little pedal push to get it going from a dead stop.
i also have 19s, so Im sure that hurts it by maybe 3mpg +/-
130 mile trip last weekend 97 A4 Z51 got me upper 20's to about 30ish the whole way at about 78mph with AC.In town I seem to keep a steady low 20's.I follow the instant to make it relative and then do the math myself.
Have a 383 A4 with 3.15. All were checked by stopwatch on an oval 2.5 mile track where constant speed was maintained on cruise for 20 miles exactly. Temp was 82 degrees winds constant at 6 mph from the NE.
55 mph = 28.4 mpg
60 mph =29.2 mpg
65 = 29.3 mpg
70 = 32.9 mpg
75 = 29.6 mpg
80 = 28.8 mpg
85 = 27.4 mpg
90 = 26.8 mpg
100 = 24,7 mpg
120 = 21.2
72 = 33.4 mpg
Best over a 20 mile fairly flat run was at 72.
This was experiment with a brand new set of plugs, a good tune windows up, targa in place and cruise set by the DIC.
With Targa removed and windows rolled down MPG dropped approximately 1.7 mpg.
Was not tested at 90, 100 or 120.
