Default c5 automatic-specific mpg question

I know the manuals can get 30+ on the highway on long trips, and maybe 22-24 in the city with easy driving...

how are the automatic C5s (im mainly looking at 98/99 vettes) ? are the numbers close to the manuals with easy driving? im usually cruising along at 80mph on the freeway

also, do coupes and convertibles make a difference as far as mpg (assuming the top is closed)

thanks!

I have a 1998 coupe, coming back from Denver 941 miles ave 28mpg. Drove 80 in Col. and Neb. 75 in Iowa and 70 in IL. 5 over, with air on most of time. Last tank some expressway and most in town. Ave 22 mpg. Keep foot out and it does good. If you can go 65 = 29+ to 30.3

I have an A4 with 3.15 gears and have gotten over 30 MPG at a steady 60 mph pace. I typically get 19-21 MPG in my daily commute (which includes some real brutal rush hour traffic in Toronto)

2002 Z51 coupe, A4, 3:15 rear end: consistent 21 on my city cycle of duty with 28 at 75 mph average on highway.

Lots less if I keep my foot in it.

Best fuel economy of all the cars in the family!

Default Denver to DFW

I drove my 98 A4 from Denver to DFW in July. Kept it "around" the posted limit and got 31 mpg for the 900 mile trip.

I have a 2000 coupe and I usually average 29-30 mpg on the highway. I did manage 32mpg going from Kansas to DC a couple of years ago.

02, automatic, stock, 17K miles. Seattle, WA to Carmel, CA and back -- 2-lane Hwy 1 along the coast southbound, San Francisco gridlock for two days, cruising for meals and side trips, and I-5 northbound at 70+mph = 29.4mpg. (About the same as the wife's Honda Accord, 4cyl, 6-speed.)

Hi, 03 vert, auto, 315's, tires @ 29psi, same as above. Have seen 31mpg on long trips averaging about 70mph. Seems that Shell gives me the best MPG. I measure from tank to tank, the dic is misleading.
Good Luck

My '04 CE A4 Coupe is averaging about 20 around town. According to the DIC, I've been getting a steady 31 - 32 MPG at 55 - 60 on a level stretch of pavement. On the interstate, she gets a steady 27 - 28 at 70 - 75 MPH, at 85 MPH, the fuel consumption goes up and the numbers drop to about 25 - 26 MPG. Real world calculations bear these DIC number up, so the computer's pretty accurate!
