Just put a 383 in my Z, mild cam, making 480 rwhp 425 tq in 91 degree air & 81 % humidity. It will see over 500 in good cool air. Too many weird things went on to give you a price.
LS2-402 going in another toy soon, numbers not in totally (still gathering lifters and gaskets, etc..) but probably $8500+.....will post numbers when she is finally running. Shortblock \cam\heads were $7400.... Should have similar rwhp...cam designed for a little more torque on this one.
418ci LS3 500rwhp at present with only 1000 miles on the new motor.
Cost should be around $8k - $11k depending on the quality of parts you use. Mine ran at the higher end with a forged bottom end and ported heads, intake and tb. Racing lifters, ported melling oil pump, yella terra rockers etc...
If I had it to do over today I would find a lightly used LS7 ($9k-10k) since the reluctor wheel issues have been resolved with an electronic fix from I believe Lingenfelter.
who has a LS 2 or 3 402 418. How much power ? How much$?
LS2 402. 10 sec power and a lot of $$. For the $, if I did it again, either a stock LS7 long block or LS7 block and forged setup 427.
418 would make a good choice too.
Seems like a decent site for information and idea's.
I find it interesting that a few people that have put in other motor's say they would do the LS7 if they did it again. Why is that? Just in case I get the itch to do a swap myself...
Probably amount of $ involved, I'd guess a custom built 402 or 418 may cost more than a crate LS7 which you could port the heads and throw in a big cam and go. (assuming you worked out the cs reluctor mis-match)

$12, $17 to $20 K
LS7 create is $13 then dry sump and install, close to $20K
You can get a great 402 or 418 custom build and install around $15
if your running a C5 you want the 24 tooth reluctor wheel, not the 56 tooth

I've seen two for sale here for $8k with about 1k miles on them. The dry sump is about $1k (few third party vendors now for the oil tank, plumbing). There's a fix for the reluctor wheel according to ECS Lingenfelter sells a harness/box? that converts the reluctor signal for the C5s and the price was around $500 a couple months ago. Probably available at other performance shops by now.
I did the install myself so I can't comment on the cost to install.

why do you think these might be for sale? some one else's problems?
Dry sump for $1,000 ?? that is more of an inexpesive damp sump system.
the dry sump tank maybe but not with the dry sump pan with pumps, plus cooler and lines.
Not sure about the converter idea of one signle to the other? sounds like more challenges waiting to happen.
Do the project right, spend the money. You say you have the skills to do the install, so dont go cheap on an engine or oil system.
