Stupid i guess, ok i was crusing in the fourth gerat aroung 45 mph, so then i tried to get into fifth and had heavy grinding into gear, in fact i just went into sixth instead tried that 2 times, then i retried the third time with no problem, do you think i was trying to shift into reverse by accident, dont need no wise *** remarks, i retried and think i was trying to get into reverse by accident, do you think i could have caused some serious damage?
unless something is wrong with the interlock the shifter physically cannot move into the reverse position while moving forward.
are you sure you had the clutch all the way in? C5 trannys aren't always the smoothest shifting in the world. I wouldn't worry about it unless it keeps happening.
exactly, it wouldnt let me , shift into gear , i am a nutcase, i was probably trying to shift into reverse gear by accident, i think they need to insstall, the gear you are in, in the HUD display or some where else

You misunderstand. The reverse lockout won't let you even get the shift lever anywhere near the reverse position. Therefore if it is working properly, you won't grind gears because you're trying to shift into reverse.

I used to have the exact same problem...lots of grinding when trying to get into 5th gear. Under warranty, the dealer replaced the OEM trans fluid with Synchromesh. That stuff was crappy. I had the trans fluid changed to Mobil1 ATF have have not had any grinding. A while back ago, I tried some Red Line D4 ATF; it worked fine for about a month and then the grinding came back. So, I went back to Mobil 1 ATF, with no grinding, ever again.
thanks, but why after the third time it was shifting like no problem, another question i really like to hang on the fifth gear , because i hardly ever go more than 75 mph, is it ok just to use the fifth gear, and as all the manual drivers probably know the fifth gear, when PUNCHED , has some serious power especially after you hit more than 5000 rpms

Reason: i suck in spelling
Mine wouldn't grind on every 5th gear shift. Sometimes there were days when it didn't grind at all and some days when I just stayed in 4th because of the constant grinding into 5th. Also, I only use 6th when on a long highway trip.
ohh yes i agree , the sixth gear is the best when you are just cruising, BUT BUT BUT, when you want to well you KNOW WHAT I MEAN, the fifth gear would wake you up if needed, get my point
BIG WORD OF CAUTION--do NOT use Mobile 1 in a 2000!! 01 on is ok but not 2000 down.97 to 2000 have the "paper faces blocker rings and Mobile 1 will damage them and you will soon be getting a rebuild. The safe synthetic for older trannies, that is readily available, is Royal Purple Syncro Max!!

Great info...and of COURSE I had to randomly get a 2000 instead of one year newer....but at least my millennium yellow is authentic,
you may have an issue withyour synchros...
Push your clutch to the floor then sheft, then release your clutch... does it still grind whenyou try to get into 5th or 6th wiht the clutch depressed to the floor?
I had a little trouble putting her into first after stopped for a while...I changed tranny and rear diff fluid to Royal Purple SynchroMax and MaxGear...it works great now!
It just happened that 2 times, use to have problems shifting into second gear before, but i found out it was because the 1-4 shift, gear hopefully you guys understans, and no i dont push the clutch completely in, just a little more than half way
Here goes again i tried going into fifth gear about a dozen times today without problem , but i did push the clutch more further, than usuaal , well thanks guys and gals for the info

I think you answered your own question - be sure to push the clutch down far enough to allow the shifter to go fully into the gear. Hope that is all that is wrong.
With yours being a 2000 you might want to do a tranny flush anyhow!!The STUFF that was in my 2000 FRC (55K miles) was NASTY!! Used R.P. Syncro Max and it really smoothed out . I used R.P.,, but probably Stock fluid would have done well too,,just needed to be cleaned out,,as I said after 55k it was really nasty looking and smelly!! I was glad to see a drain plug in the transmission and rear end. My old shark has none!
