Out of the blue my passenger side window doesn't go down. (2000 C5)
In your opinion is this something to do with the codes? Could I pull them up on the dash screen and find it to re-set or is it more likely a fuse?
thanks for your help.

It could be a number of things.
Check the wire loom between the door and the body, Give it a good shake.
Might be the control unit in the door, Check your codes and see if you have any.

Out of the millions of posts on this site, I think about 75% deal with the passenger window in the C5 not going up or down. A search will give you more results than you ever want to read on the issue.
This is all good information, but before you do this, turn on the ignition, hold down the window down switch and slam the door. If the window doesn't go down, do it again. After a few times the window should start to work. Exercise it up an down a few times and then occasionally thereafter run it up and down to keep the contacts in the motor free. It won't cost you anything to try. Post back here what happens.

Sorry, But this seems like a strange fix, Slam the door over and over? You go ahead and slam your door, I would rather fix it right.

It is only a temporary fix. The motor armature inside the housing sticks and this is a way to free it up. I have even heard of new motors sticking too, so it looks more like a design flaw. Once the window gets moving again, they need to operate it at least once every time they drive the car.

Feel free to spend all you want on "fixing it right". It's your money. But this one works and it's free. Once it starts to work, if you move it occasionally, it's fixed. Maybe your car is so fragile that if you slam the door, it will fall off, mine won't.

No, You do what you want, I am not into backyard fixes on my car, It has nothing to do with money or car being fragile, It has everything to do with "Doing The Right Thing" Last thing I want to do is worry about putting the window up and down everytime I get into the car for a temp fix so it doesn't happen again.

So what do you suggest he do to fix it right? Replace the window motor and regulator, the door module and the wiring to the door? I gave him a quick free way to get his window to work. Let's see what happens if he ever posts what the outcome is.

Fix the part that is defective, If it turns out to be the bushings in the motor, Replace the motor. I didn't say change everything, only what is defective, You seems sure that it is the bushing in the motor, That is what we were talking about, Not everything else. I am just saying whatever part need fixed just do it right. My car deserves better that a backyard fix.. That is all I am saying, You can do what ever you want to your car, I would just rather that the correct route.
Without getiing into the argument, what the door slam method will do is identify that the door lock module is causing the problem
As Bakersfild says, the failure is caused by a cheap relay sticking closed. The slam may clear it if that's the problem. It may come back but some are still free after a long time. Exercising the windows regularly may keep the relay operating normally.
Of interest less Verts seem to have this problem because the windows are exercised every time the roof is lowered so the relay gets more use.

About a year ago, my passenger side window stopped working. The dealer fixed it for me, no charge. The fix was that the tech pounded on the door panel a few times until the window function started working. I haven't had any problems since then.

Glad it worked for you, Are you guys sure it just wasn't a loose connection in the door and not the bushings in the motor?

It happens way too many times for it to be a loose connection. If it were a loose connection, it would show itself again real quick. And like the others have said, slamming the door usually un-sticks the armature inside the motor and it works again for a long time. The dealer will be glad to sell you a very expensive motor (regulator) but this may work and you have nothing to loose. Good luck...
I am always in favor of a quick fix to at least gain some "breathing room"! Unfortunately, if you do a search you will find that GM window motors are ****! I have replaced quite a few and it's always a pain.
My '04 had one put in by the dealer with only a couple of thousand miles on the clock!! Grrrrrrr! I hope the fix works for you, but better get used to the idea of starting to look for a window motor.
If you are handy there are some great picture sequence do-it -yourself suggestions on this site.
