Default "Love bugs"?

Who named them this anyway? They should have named them "Wait till you spend three hours washing and waxing your ride then get together with forty thousand of your friends and kill yourself by jumpping infont of cars on the road" Ok, done venting. Sorry.

I haven't seen too many near me (Sarasota/Bradenton). Actually I thought they were pretty light this spring compared to last year. I know they rear their ugly little heads again in the fall, however again pretty light this year.

For all those who don't know what us Floridians are talking about, "Lovebugs" are flying insects that come out in swarms every spring and to a lesser degree every fall.

The female and the smaller male hook up for some in-air kinky action (thus the term LoveBug) and fly around landing on everything and everyone until the male eventually dies from exhaustion (what a way to go I guess) and drops off leaving the female full of eggs.

Last spring (2007) was really bad. I remember seeing a UPS delivery truck window full of the splattered pests. It looked like someone shot 10,000 white paintballs at it.

As a result, my vette is usually in the garage that month. It's just not worth cleaning it after every ride.

and their guts are made out of quickcrete. You'll be scrubbing for awhile. Funny, I never noticed them in my Jeep. Also, sorry to those who didn't know about love bugs. Thought they were a everywhere problem.

I have a black four door sedan daily business driver (Acura TLS). During the height of their activity, I've spread Crisco cooking oil over the front of my bumber and grill. I got that tip from my neighbor who is a native Floridian. It really helps when I would hose off the bastards each week.

Last spring, I took my freshly washed verte out for a 2 mile run to/from the post office. I came back with the window and front end full of their mashed guts.

I've been to a couple work functions in Florida and yes...been aquainted with them "luv-bugs"!

Seriously, I don't know what people see in Florida.

Opressive heat/humidity, hurricanes, bugs and gators!!!

I'll stay in PA

(No offense to Floridians, just my 02)

Yep it's September... Love Bug season again. Also occurs in May-June too. Last a couple weeks.

Best protection is lots of polish. Even still if they are left on there long, they can be very difficult to remove. A lot of times laying a wet towel on their remains will loosen them. One episode I ended up having to use my PC-DA buffer and Zaino ZPC to remove the marks.

I remember seeing a photo of a guy in a yellow C5 who made a road trip with his headlight up. The front of his car/hood was PLASTERED with bugs, but when he put his headlights back down, they were clean...it looked funny.

Default Paint

They will stick to your paint and actually chip the paint if you leave them on to long. My dad used to keep a toothbrush and a coffee cup with carwash soap and water in the garage to brush them off his car.

I have a 07 Honda Civic that has the rubber bumper on the front. I left them on to long and it's pretty much ruined. Love Florida. No snow. Year round Corvette weather, cept love bug season.
Think of getting covered with them on a Harley. uugggg.

Took the C5 to Daytona Beach 2 summers ago and ran into a herd of the SOBs. I now have spots on the front fascia where the clear coat is gone. I waited a couple of days before I tried to wash them off and paid the piper.
