Default Caliper Paint

I recently purchased some drilled/slotted rotors. My calipers are stock and that gray looking color. I know all about powder coating or taking them all apart but for my driver I'm not going to go to that extreme.

Has anyone had any luck just shooting them on the car? What do you wipe them down with first? Do you rough them up with sandpaper?

What is a good high temp paint that would look good and I can pick up at a local store.

I imagine I'm looking for a high gloss black?

Try Dupli-Color Caliper Paint. You can Find it at Auto-Zone in a couple of different colors, black included. It is a two-part paint (much like epoxy) with a hardener that drys to a gloss finish. Give the Caliper a good cleaning with brake-clean or similar and I also gave them a good warm water/soap scrub, too. Check my profile "mod pics" for photos.
PM if you have questions...
Good Luck.
Aloha,
Michael

I bought my caliper paint at Advanced Auto. It comes with the cleaner small paint brush and a can of paint (more then enough). I did mine on the car two years ago and they still look great.

I shot mine on the car and they look great. Just mask everything really well and shot in a still type environment. I used VHT from AutoZone.

I used Dupli-Color Caliper Paint (Black) and taped off everything. I then scuffed it up with some sand paper and then wiped it down with paint thinner. I then brushed the paint on. Came out really well

Pretty much the same story here. I used Dupicolor rattle cans to do mine.

My process was.
  1. Clean each caliper with brake cleaning fluid 2 times
  2. Mask off what you don't want painted
  3. Lightly sand the Corvette script on the front caliper
  4. Spray your base coat, sand or scrape top of raised Corvette script
  5. Spray 2nd and 3rd coat sanding then scrape paint off script
  6. Spray 2 coats of clear coat.
  7. Let dry and then put your wheels on and take some pictures

Here's how mine turned out:

Buy a hobby paint brush (hardware store or hobby shop) to use with the brush on caliper paint kits. The brush they provide is terrible and will leave brush marks.
The silica based paint is very durable and drys quickly. It'll take longer to clean/mask than to paint the calipers.
Some prefer to paint only the exposed side...I painted both sides so it looks factory. When it's dry, you can sand/razor blade off the paint on the CORVETTE lettering for a nice contrast.

If you used armorall or any tire shine on your tires, you have to get it off or it will fisheye like crazy, Took me longer to clean them then it did to do the job! If you think they are clean, clean them again

I was going to paint mine, but decided I just wanted a simple clean look. I chucked a wire wheel into a drill motor, cleaned all four very well, then took a fine wire dremel attachement to them and got a nice semi gloss finish on them. Cleaned the leters with alcohol, then used some red Testors hobby paint applied with a quality brush and did the lettering in red, got just the look I wanted. Two coats on the letters, and after a year and 3000 miles they still look right. They look good behind the black wheels. And I don't see them on other cars.

I had mine off the car to install new rotors six years ago and painted them with Foliatec epoxy brake caliper paint. Still look good. I have seen calipers painted on the car and the look good as well as long as they were thoroughly cleaned before painting.

I just used brake cleaner then brushed on Rustoleum Red from a can

Three coats, and they still look great after two years of daily driving.
