Default ??????Cam question?????

What is the largest lift you can put on a zo6 and what problems do you run into with a high lift cam?

Isn't having a cam installed expensive? If it is why wouldn't you just install new rockers as well

Why just change the lift? Most of the power gains come from a full profile change.

^ If you have to ask that you should just find a competent tuner and tell them you power, power band, and drivability goals and let them do it.

Also depends on duration and LSA weather you're going to contact the valve to piston. A couple of large cams that make big power in the higher RPMs, still tend to be streetable with a proper tune, and don't require flycutting your pistons are:

LG Motorsports G5X3 http://www.lgmotorsports.com/catalog...oducts_id=1509

Texas speed Magic stick 4
http://texas-speed.com/shop/category...MID=3&catid=44

You'll need upgraded valve springs for these cams and hardened pushrods. If you contact one of these vendors they'll tell you what you need. Judging by your obvious lack of knowledge this is not something you should try without expert guidance on your choice or the installation. Good luck on your decision

only way to learn is to ask...thanks guys! Right now I am trying to figure out what I want in the car and what to expect.

I really want a hard idle and a n/a motor pushing 600rwhp but the down side is I need to be able to drive it daily. Fine line I'm walking, I know

^ Not going to happen... If it's a daily driver then leave it alone unless you have $15k spare cash laying around for a new motor.

The only way you'll make 600 rwhp and have it be a daily driver would be a built motor with a TT kit. NA will take a max effort 427.

Have you ever driven a car with that much power... what makes you think you need/want 750 HP for a daily driver.

For the most part heavily modded cars are endless work/$$$. Large cams and daily driving don't go to gether well, you'll get tired of it.

600 rwhp is not going to happen on anything less then a forged internal 427 race build motor. Ok it might, but not for long.

a LS6 engine with new heads, AFR205s and an LGX3 cam will get you close if not over 500 rwhp

and that is with lots of other parts too, LTs, Fast 92/92, under drive pulley, ect. ect. $$$$

There are other combination of heads, cam, intake TB, LTs that will get you there too.

Talk to a few engine builders in your area

Good luck

What does my mastery of the English language have to do with my affinity for catamaran sailing?

I don't even like cats. OK, maybe high flow, but not feline, or aquatic.

Judging from the above post, spelling, grammar, etc. are the least of your worries.

This is a great thread for a new LS1 owner.

505 is not the new number.... 750 is....

I agree - the only susbstitute for cubic inches is rectangular dollars! And there's a point of no return on street drivability. The LS6 is a real tempting platform to start adding to but my budget is limited on Social Security. The car has 9k original miles, I've added Borla Stinger cat backs, 160 thermo, Halltech Venom breather - now tempted to add LG Pro long tube headers with small cats since LG is made by Borla anyway and have good low end torque specs - sorry now I have the Stingers - may be way too loud. I have also talked to LG about one of their milder cams. I may well let them do the cam swap - years ago I swapped more heads, cams and intake systems on my SB Bowties than I can count (even the old Rochester FI) but this old fart ain't into the electronics - I'll need advice from a pro on built in degrees of advance on cam, etc. I've only put 1k mi. on in the last 12 mo. so drivability ain't the point. I'm not racing the car - just looking for retro memories of how my engines used to sound and run like. The dyno tech @ LG said with a good tune (will need one) the car should be in the upper 4s @ the rear wheels - his guess not mine. I know - I live in the past and like it that way. Told my child bride to bury me in my Z with the iPod on George Jones!
