i had the wagon wheels, my main problem with the look is the car is a great Pewter look and the wheels came stock painted silver? it was kind of a clash or a cheap look, if painted to match the car or polished or chrome they would have looked beter...the stock gray painted wagon wheels that year (98) looked ok on all other colored vette's (black, red, white you name it) but on mine. yuk.
Guy i know was putting z06 wheels on his 2001 coup. he was required to send in trad in wheels for new ones. (i asked any wheels?) he said any vette wheels.
long story,
i gave him the wagons to send in, he got the z06 rims. i got his thin chrome 2001 rims for free. win /win.
plus i gave him just rims to send. he game me rims with great mitchlin pilot pro run flats still mounted!
he said he could not use them because the z06 rims were defferent sizes (slightly wider )
i prefer the skinny spoke look , even more than the z06 (it was made just to be deferent from the base vette, ) but didnt look better. and i think the z06 rims on a coup make you look like a wanabe or posser' everone knows its not a z06 so it seems wrong.
now after a ton of years (1998 up to 2011) lots of cars have wider spokes now, the old wagons in chrome would spin flashy and look sharp. or black powder coat too.
but why Chevy EVER though to put a cheap painted silver wheel on a pewter metal flake painted car it will never know. (you should see how that looks)
yeah, i could see the contrast between a black car and silver painted wheels, like i said , it works on the other colors..
But on the Pewter car it looks like a bad attempt to match the wheels to the car but they dont match, the pewter and the silver are too close and clash a bit, everyone who saw it thought so, with the chrome it looks great.
spiral gray is darker and it might even look OK with the painted silver wagon wheels.
but the Pewiter is a light gray and the silver wheels in paint looked light gray but the two did not match..
hard to explain in text .
But i agree on Black it must look good. in fact on a black car, chrome, or black out rims, silver paint, after market, even thin color stripes, all look great on a black car, Wtih black as the car anything go's
I am not fan of wagon wheels either. For 200.00 I bought aluminum y2k wheels, stripped them, polished them. Now they are like new!! People think they are chrome.
I am anxious to see the pictures...Wagon wheels definitely kill the car and "modifying" the wagon wheels is just a feeble attempt to make the car look better.
What are the best looking "after market" wheels to put on a Vette in everyones opinion?
not talking about z06 style or thin spoke or wagon wheel, but is there a style that just jumps out and rocks on corvettes? just wondering
I would like to post pictures of my black powered coated wagon wheels (with red accents) but my Posting Rules says, 'You may NOT post attachments". ?????
LikeI said email me if you want to see a picture.
