My car came with 2 brand new fobs for my 2000 vette. The old ones looked like a dog chewed on them do the used car dealer replaced them for me. Both fobs work, but I have to be right next to the driver's door. A few times I had to nearly touch the glass to get it to work.
I ran a search on here but all the topics were older and closed and one was for a 99 which I know had a different fob type. I am not getting any error message on the DIC and the fobs do work, I just need to be on top of the car.
The 2000 fobs are problematic. About your only hope would be to try changing the battery in one and see if that increases your range. Then if it does, do the other. If the battery doesn't fix it, the next most likely is the fob. Even though you say "new" they may be from 2000. Try a new battery in the fob and post back what happens. You may have to reprogram or resync the fob after the swap. You can resync by holding the lock/unlock buttons on the fob down until the car beeps. If you don't get a sync, you will have to go into the DIC and reprogram the fobs.
I have no idea if this will actually work, the range of my fobs is fine so I never tried it, but if yours aren't working very well to begin with then it might be worth a shot:

I have the same issue on my 99. New batteries did not fix it, so I need a new fob. Another thing to try is to open the fob and clean the board. Sometimes it gets moisture on the surface in there from being in your pocket all the time. When I cleaned mine it worked for another few months. After I got back from my deployment it doesn't unlock at all, but it will lock if I'm within 5 inches of the fuel door.
The receiver is right under the gas door area. Bottom line is, a new fob is likely your fix.

Thoughts?
Thanks,

The book says up to 100 feet away (30 metres).
I'd say if its not working you could try new batteries. If that doesn't work its new fobs. Loads of people have had similar issues and bought new fobs off E Bay.
If you have to buy fobs, don't buy them on ebay for the 2000. The 01-04 fobs are cheap and plentiful. But you can buy a brand new one from Gene Culley on here. His last price I saw was $59. You won't find a 2000 fob on ebay for that and it will be used if you find one at all. Again, try the battery first and post what happens.
My Y2K fob does the same thing. It works from about 20 feet, maybe 30 feet at the most.
I'd remove the battery and check it with a meter to see if it's good or not. No reason to waste money on a good battery if yours is OK. I checked my battery and it's just fine. It seems like these fobs can be problematic.
I don'tthink the 01-04 fobs ae interchangeable with the earlier. I believe it's the same difference as with the tire pressure sensors and they run on a different frequency.
Went to my sister's in DC for an extended weekend. While down there te fobs were working from INSIDE the house and across parking lots. ZERO problems with distance. I get home, unpack the car, try to lock it... nothing. I walk closer and closer... right up to the driver's window before it locks.
I have heard if you hold the Fob to your neck and press the button it increases the range...
That ABSOLUTELY works! I have a '97 Cadillac that is notorious for not recognizing the FOB signal until I'm about 6' from the car.
But....... If I put the FOB to my neck with one hand, press the unlock or lock button and extend my other arm out like a one-arm scarecrow I can make it work from 20 yards!
