The question should be, if it feels cheapish to you, why such a desire to own it in the first place. The reality is that all American men and some American woman view this car as an icon of engineering and status for what it is, not what it isn't. I presume when you first got it, the performance outweighed how the stereo or air conditioning buttons looked. In order to make a vehicle with high end performance that is attainable to the average consumer, some things fall to the cost/benefit analysis. Lucky for us that doesn't include the styling, engine, tranny and suspension. You could get a Lotus for the same money and performance and it doesn't even have a radio or AC.
Never felt "cheap", but the interior was the weakest link (for me). I liked the "style" - just not crazy about materials and so on. $1000 of Dynamat/Ensolite, etc. and a $5,000+ VE Carbon-Fiber Leather/Suede interior fixed the weak link!

I have heard this about the interior looking and feeling cheap in the C5. I just don't think it's true. If it's in nice shape it looks and feels great. I guess if you compare it to cars costing twice the price it may seem a little deficient. As others have said, it's alot of performance for the money and the interior is just fine as far as I am concerned.
Well, for a cost of 52k new, yeah the interior is a little on the cheap side. Does the performance outweigh that cheapness? IMO definitely yes. Wouldn’t have bought one otherwise.
When I owned a C5 ... it only felt cheap when I looked at the crap GM interior switch gear and so on.
What is so crappy about the switch gear? It is reliable and doesn't get screwed up with dirt and moisture like a lot of others with the so called designed to feel like quality do. There is a real difference between real quality and designed to feel like quality.
I'll be the odd man out here, simply because I have no insane emotional attachment to the toy.
But...yes...it most definitely feels cheap. The interior is what gets me. Not sure why everyone else praises it, it's not exactly a luxurious interior. I guess the only difference is I don't have blinders on.
It's very cheap. Thankfully, it's also cheap to make it real nice. By the time I'm done with my interior, I'll probably have about $4k in it, and it'll rival some of the cars coming out of Caravaggio. Ahh the joys of having friends in the industry and being able to do your own labor .
I Frost King'ed my '02 MN6 and it feels much cozier/quieter/tighter than Mrs. Patches' '02 A4. Both are very low-mile. Interior is lower-end compared to newer cars but it was definitely the area to compromise on when going for bang-for-buck. Still - love 'em both.
We saw the '08 interior when we toured the factory recently and it is much improved but we love the C5 styling much better so we're stickin' with 'em.
