After I cut the stock air box out I felt much better having a hood seal so water don't leak all over the K&N when I wash it. Peace of mind was well worth the 15 bucks I spent at Auto Zone. That and the 2 tenths I picked up in the 1/8th mile.

Thanks for the posting. I will definitely get one for the dust and water prevention. I don't race my car but I do want it to look great all the time.

Your 100% correct. This kind of question is a sitting duck for all ouir resident a$$holes.
Anyway, in answer to the ORIGINAL question : the seal will not provide ANY performace improvement. BUT if you have an open ( as opposed to a case inclosed) air filter the seal will prevent a great deal of water from dripping onto your filter(s).
The guys that rag this question are also probably the same guys that lose sleep over worring about hydo lock from all the water their honker airfilters will suck up off the ground. Guess they never heard of water working its way down.

Wow. I guess I fall into that "smart a**es" category. Yes it is a legit question. Yes it deserves a legit answer. The first reply was legit. So was the next 4 replies after that. I thought the question was answered with the first 5 replys. I guess I was wrong again. I will have to tell my wife that she is no the only one who says I am wrong. I am sorry if I ruffled any feathers. I just had an opportunity to ingest humor into this thread. If you find that offensive, I won't try to explain the electric supercharger either. You might find it offensive also.

As long as these "legitimate" posts come up there will be "legitimate" answers. This is a classic case of posting a question that's been beaten to death

BTW, for sh%ts and giggles I did a search on performance hood seal - 587 threads.

So what if all you guys who live on this forum have seen this, or any similar "popular question" post a thousand or 557 times before. Everyone doesn't have the time or inclination to search for a simple answer. The one I am the most sick of is the "search and read the posting on CLB"s. Yeah I did that once, took about a week and had more incorrect answers in with some correct answers to just waste time. If you aren't interested in a post don't read it! If a new guy has a question just ask it, somebody will be more than happy to actually be helpful. In other words if you don't have something nice to say be a gentleman and just walk away. JMHO, I could be wrong.

Anyhow, I put it on only to keep water off my exposed filters. Seems to work for that. Also correct that you can go to Home Depot or wherever and get the same gasket material cheaper if you have the time and inclination.

That's a crock.

I put one on to help keep dirt out, don't think it made much difference if any. Every time I clean the dust and sand of my engine I think of the seal ..... LOL!!!

At least Ecklers is happy!

As pointed out by others, it keeps the engine bay a little cleaner and helps keep out some water spotting. That's about it.

I put one on after I bought my 04' C5. I never read anything about a HP gain, however I thought it made sense to help keep the engine cleaner. However, I still get enough dirt/sand/etc. that I don't really think it made much of a difference. If it did, I always wondered why GM simply didn't add the trim in the factory as they were adding the other rubber trim.

Oh well, nothing makes the vendors happier than a new Corvette owner with a credit card!

BTW - have I shown anyone my Corvette Coffee Mugs and Money Clips?!
