Egad, seriously, bud... you need to think very, very hard about people you may have had scrapes with, even a long ways back, to see if you might have something the local authorities can work with. This is just such a vile thing to do to someone that "random" doesn't seem to fit - hey, lotsa whack jobs out there, so it's certainly possible. But if there's a way to hang some turd for this, that'd be the preferred end result.
All the best with your insurance co.
Regards,
Dave
Sounds like this wasn't a random act of vandalism. Is there anyone who's been angry at you lately? Ex-GF/Wife, Ex-friends, coworker? I'd start looking there first.
This is very personal and someone you know. Think real hard becasue someone has it in for you. Make sure the police are involved and if you do find out who this dirtbag is have him arrested and charged....
Try to enjoy your Thanksgiving. That's terrible for those B$#%# to this. Let the insurance do what they have to do. The car can be fixed no problem. This must not be a random act.
I think the burnt smell will be gone. You will get a new top new carpet and new seats and foams. Should smell like a new car, and one of those ozone machines would help

I agree with the others. It's got to be personal, someone who knows you. Hope there are security cameras.
I'd get it fixed. A good interior/detail shop should be able to get the smoke smell out.
If you find out who did this, burn 'em a new one.

The perps are in need of what my Dad calls the Barn Act. It involves an old wooden barn, a rail road spike, a hammer, barn support timber, soft and, to males, "special" tissue area, a rusty knife and a source of ingnition!
I'm worried about what happens if they total it. Obviously our cars hold their value very well compared to 99% of vehicles. With that being said if they just cut you a check for kbb value, you probably wouldnt be able to replace your car since they have a much higher price on the market than book value... Please keep us informed... What a sad way to start the holidays off. Especially for someone like you that works in a hospital to help people.. Good Grief...
