Air Bag Deployment Question

Anyone know what happens to the pass. side air bag dash panel when the air bag deploys? Does it get destroyed? I need one, looks like GM only sells the whole air bag unit and not the panel separate.

Why not try one of the site vendors that sells used Corvette Parts?

So, what does happen with the panel when the bag deploys? Is it hinged, top or bottom? Does it blow straight out or what?

That panel does get destroyed, as well as the windshield.

Don't have specifics on the Vette but regular air bag covers have "tear strips" or perforated edges to the panel. These are of different breaking limits so the cover flips away from the bag as it deploys and doesn't end up between you and the bag when its inflated fully.

You wouldnt want Corvette" embedded in your forehead no matter how much of a Vette enthusiast you are

You can see from the pics in the Manual that its all one piece. The disposal instructions ask you to deploy the airbag before getting rid. Its obviously a single non-repairable item.
