I searched but couldn't find anything definitive. Is there anyway to add an I-Pod to the stock head unit without replacing it? I really DON'T want an FM modulator type. So on the regular C5's you can use the CD changer wiring harness? I am guessing that that leaves us without many options?

Try www.peripheralelectronics.com. I kept my stock HU in my '02 Z, never cut 1 factory wire or spliced into one and completely bypassed the lack lustre Bose system entirely. Went JL all the way, JL C5 components speakers in doors, they were just coming out w/the 5 1/4 speakers for the rear so I compromised and went Boston Acoustics there & a 12" stealth sub. Ran a #2 ga wire from the batt back to JL 300/4 & 500/1 amps and RCA cables from the HU back to the "works". I was using an iPod Classic which I mounted in my center console - just switched to a new iPod Touch which says it isn't charging on this setup like my old Classic did - will have to investigate. The sound will blow you away compared to the Bose if you want to go that far or just get the plug & play harness from the above referenced and your iPod will play through the former CD option on your stock HU. Get ready for a tight fit behind the HU but it can be done even though it took me a few calls to tech support to confirm which plug went where. DO IT - YOU'LL LOVE IT!!! I bought all my major components on eBay for approx 1/2 price - JL only warrants through an approved retailer but for 1/2 price who cares!
PS: Forget about looking for a CD pigtail behind the passenger side kick panel - I d&%ned near made a career out of that - it ain't there!!! Go to the back of the HU!

Found mine, it's actually at the base of the footwell panels and where the panels meet the floor.
By the way, there is a Peripheral RCA conversion box for sale in the C5 Parts forum.
I just solved my problem and wanted to share info. I have a PXDP interface by Peripheral Electronics that plugs into the stock HU and runs the iPod thru what would normally be the CD selection on the HU. Worked great with my old iPod Classic and charged as well. I upgraded to the new iPod Touch and it still plays great but won't charge from the vehicle juice. I just spoke to tech support and was advised that they recognized the problem with the latest gen of some iPods, iPhones, etc and are coming with a female to male pigtail that plugs into the existing end of the harness and will allow the new devices to charge while connected. He said Best Buy will carry them but Discount Car Stereo.com would likely have them first - late Feb. They will be called "Revolt". Hope this helps somebody else with the same question.
With AUX input can you control the music through your ipod or headunit?
What will be able to control through ipod?
I had a shop up here (Car Toys) install a cable hook up in my car and you control the music selection with the IPOD but the rest of the controls are through the radio, volume, fade, etc. this was with the stock Bose system.

they were able to connect an aux cable to your stock head unit? do you know how they did it? i've been throwing the idea of buying aftermarket for a little while now, but if i can use the stock head unit with my ipod that would be ideal.
I have a couple questions first off.... I have 03 C5 ZO6 Bose No cd changer..... What I want is to be able to do is use my I-Pod classic and leave it in the center console and control threw my HU.... Witch wire kit do I need?????? And where does it plug in to the back of the HU? And the cable plugs directly into the IPOD????

See my post #4 this thread. If you have a late version of the Classic it will not charge thru this harness but they are coming in late Feb with a pigtail that plugs into the iPod end of the harness - then to the iPod called "Revolt" that will allow the latest versions of iPods & iPhones to charge while in use thru the stock HU. Mine is plugged in directly to the back of the stock HU and I have mine installed in the center console also. If you have an earlier version of the Classic like mine it will charge while in use - never leave plugged in over night - causes drain on batt. Mine is an '02 Z that never had that elusive pigtail located somewhere behind the passenger side kick panel like some reportedly do. Call Peripheral @ 866-788-4237 for the correct kit for your Vette. Hope this helps.
Update 4/18/09 - Don't order the Re Volt. If you do you have to go clear back to the Periph. brick behind the HU to connect a new wire which means tearing into the console and dash again and then you are limited to playing only the new gen. iPod/Phone. Crutchfield has an adapter smaller than a matchbook made by Scootch (something like that) that plugs in between the old interface wire plug and the iPod and will charge the new gen. models - if you have both like me - just don't use the interface and the older unit charges and plays like always. I bought one - works great!

Dude click on the link above, all the info you need is right there. I did this mod almost a year ago and it works flawlessly. $3 and a couple hours worth of work and you are rolling down the road with your ipod/zune blarring thru your headunit.
