I had a dte stage 4 in the car, no dte brace, which im sure I should have had, and will when it goes back together, the gearset came apart on a 1-2 shift and I think with everything in a bind it caused the case to come apart. I have a set of dte's new shop peened hardened gears, supposedly better than the ones I was sold a year ago. I am currently looking for a case, thats my question is there a strength difference between a c5 z06 case and a coupe rearend casing?
Yea a strut brace should be first on the list of mods. My still stock rear end has had over 300 high RPM sprayed launches at the drags and it's fine because of the DTE Strut brace. No matter how strong the internals, unless we stop the flexing with can see breakage.
Has seen 685rwtq and 1.5x 60'ers, so they can live as long as we have a little slip in the tire. Drag radials should be avoided as the hard side walls allow only minimum tq absorbing. Where as, a ET Street will wrinkle like a slick and help reduce shock to drive train. That's all I run, one long hard shaft (broke the stocker with BFG DR) DTE strut brace and ET Streets at a low psi, and of course no dead hooking. So far so good, lol, I know that can change at any time, lol.

Robert, I think it is your good driving and the ET Streets that have kept it together (and probably a 3 rib case). From everything I have read, the brace does not prevent case failure. It protects the trans if the case does go boom.
Not proven yet, but it seems like most of the failures are with the singe rib case. There was a thread not too long ago asking for pictures of a failed 3 rib case. After much ado, none have shown up.
After talking with RPM and DTE, I replaced both shafts and decided not to go with the brace. My best is 1.44 60'. ET Streets help a ton, but good smart driving (not flooring it and dumping the clutch) is a HUGE factor. I took it real slow until I was able to launch smooth, not crazy).
So, to answer your question.... I do not believe there is a difference between a Z06 and coupe case. They are all the same. At some point (I think 01) they went to a 3 rib. Now, the C6 is different and can be fitted in ours with additional stuff. The new ZR1 looks to be the strongest. I know there is at least one (LB) trying to make it work in a C5.
The extra rib support is on the top of the diff. It goes right down the center section from the rear cover to the front, where it slides into the trans. I was under the impression, that these style cases are on some but not all of the 01 Z's and on all the 02-04 Z's. If you want to learn more, go to the tech section & on the search section at the top right of the page, type in Rear differential. You will get plenty of information there. Good luck.
