I have the upgraded gears on my 01 auto.....what are they exactly?

I cannot imagine anything higher, my tires wont hook up for the life of em and all I got is a BBK CAI,x-pipe and magna flow exhaust.

I was thinking of 3:42's in the future.

I would sugest you may want to just buy a 3.73 differential. I tried to have mine rebuilt and had whining issues. They tried new gears again, in the same carrier, and, for whatever reason, weren't able to shim it up to proper specs. Ended up buying a new carrier which they were able to shim up. Wasn't fun. I split the cost with my tuner and the rebuilder. He had never had a 3.73 gear installation failure before.

I missed that it was an auto, 3.73s would be good for that

What does replacing gears affect....do I need another tune?
If you have a 6 speed, you shouldn't need a tune, however if you have an automatic you will be carrying higher revs around town.

I understand that if you are going from 3:42 to 4:10's it is about the equivilent of netting and extra 100 hp at the wheels.............so I'm told.

Nouman would know. Good luck with whatever changes you decide on.

I had 2:73's in mine before I went to 3:73's. I probably got around 26-27 mpg with the 2:73's. Now with the 3:73's I get around 18-20.

Just do the math, at 70 mph I was turning around 1,750 rpm's, now I am turning around 500 rpm's higher with the 3:73's. More rpm's = lower gas mileage.
