Default ebay catch can

Disclaimer...I am not trying to offend any vendors or start any fights here
I am pretty sure I need a catch can based on the research I've done here on CF. I do not want to spend much on this mod so I have been looking at the ebay universal catch cans. Does anyone have any experience with them? Good or bad?
Finally, if my choice was to buy an ebay CC or go with out (remembering that I am pretty sure I need one), which would you suggest?
thanks for your insight

Default Beware!

You might want to read this:

http://www.conceptualpolymer.com/PCV...oval%20102.pdf

It summarizes what's out there and shows one Ebay can, exposed. I'm sure they are not all constructed that way, but as a general rule of thumb, anything under, say, $50 should be suspect. A good alternative as a low-cost unit that is very effective is a small, zinc-body particulate filter, as long as you don't mind emptying the 1-oz housing every month or so. I mention zinc body because the polycarbonate versions are rated to only 125 degrees F - too low for both the blowby gasses and engine bay temps. The zinc-body units are typically about $50 and some are very well made.

thanks Dave. I thought I'd read all of your write ups about the catch cans. I am just trying to keep my cost low. right now I have to contend with the Canadian dollar exchange and shipping which adds significantly to the total to the catch can. even the $50 unit you describe will be expensive because I probably won't be able to find one locally. the ebay units are my only low cost alternative. I will read this article you wrote and reconsider. thanks for the extra info

that looks like the plastic air compressor filter-am I wrong, is it glass? As per Dave's info, I thought the synthetic oil would wreck the casing and that the engine bay got too hot for those to work effectively. Am I out to lunch here?

Got mine from Chip at CCA. He is a great vendor with great products. See this link. More than you want to spend but you will not regret it.

I have the Elite Engineering can for nearly a year, and it really works. Go with a quality unit, Elite or CCA are excellent, and your dealing with stand up guys in either case! You do get what you pay for!

I wasn't going to mention this because I didn't want to offend Chip, but I picked one up off Fleabay last week for $16 shipped to my house. It's the same size, aluminum, red and contained all brackets, hoses and hardware. The only difference is that the "real" ones sold here have a much better internal filter design. Sorry Chip!

I appreciate the thought. There are a lot of good products out there and lots of good places to get them

Peace
