What does this do? I don't hear anything different and can't find anything about it in the book in the dash. Thanks.

Speed sensitive volume control. The faster you do the louder it gets.

I think it controls the sound level so that as cockpit noise increases so does the volume.

No , that's pretty much it. As stated, as vehicle speed increases, it automatically increase the volume of the radio. You can adjust the volume sensitivity by moving the tab up or down, or put the tab all the way to the bottom to turn it off.

That's the Speed Compensated Volume slider. Push it up and as the outside noise increases around the car, the radio volume will also increase.

Click HERE then go to page 3-14

SCV (Speed-Compensated Volume): With SCV,
your audio system adjusts automatically to make up for
road and wind noise as you drive. Set the volume at the
desired level. Turn the control ring behind the upper
**** clockwise to adjust the SCV. Each notch on the
control ring allows for more volume compensation
at faster vehicle speeds. Then, as you drive, SCV
automatically increases the volume, as necessary, to
overcome noise at any speed. The volume level should
always sound the same to you as you drive. If you don’t
want to use SCV, turn the control all the way down.

I have. I prefer having control over the volume myself.

I had a JVC deck in my IROC a few years back that would increase the volume based on the RPM's.

Exactly. A nice feature that allows the radio to get louder to compensate for increased road and wind noise when the car is moving.
