I was driving to work today and ran over a dead skunk. There were 2 cars in front of me so I never saw the thing until popped out from under the car in front of me. I thought at first that I'd let it pass underneath but last minute tried to go around it and hit it with the right front tire.
What a miserable drive to work, smelling that skunk. I stopped at a Jimmy Johns drive thru to pick up lunch and there were some folks sitting at some tables outside, near the speaker box, and they made a comment about the smell and went inside to eat.
Anyone know of a sure fire way to neutralize the odor?
When I lived in Jersey I hit one with my Trans Am, and it got caught up under the car so I dragged it about a block. Dude I couldn't get that smell out for months. I went to a car wash and paid the guy extra to spray all the carpets with air freshner. That didn't even help. Look on the net to see if there's anything out now that will get it out. Good luck.
My hunting dog was always tangling with a skunk, needless to say there were times when she smelt like one too. I always bathed her in tomato juice which seemed to counter act the smell.

If you don't have a pool, find someone that does, fill it with tomato juice and drive on in. Works every time.......
I've had no personal experience with it, but I've also heard that tomato juice will kill the odor. If you had one of those gallon pressurized lawn sprayers, you could put a bunch of tomato juice in it and spray it on the bottom of the car and into the wheel well. Be careful of getting it on the paint----tomato juice is a little acidic.

That's what we had to bathe our dog in to get rid of the smell!
Bubba is dead on with the mix! Tomato juice NEVER worked on my German Shepherd. Skunks seem to realy tick him off!! Though, it isn't funny when I have to bath him!!
We have skunks here in Kentucky. It seem ironic, at least in my experience, the heaviest skunk population seems to be in central KY, which is the Frankfort area, which is the state capital.
Thats funny because earlier today i was commenting on how many dead skunks there are on the roads, maybe it had to do something with the ice storm we just had?
Wash the wheel Well and tire with Coke. let it sit then spray it off.
This is what they told me at the detail shop when I took my Volvo in a couple of years ago after a Skunk hit
Make sure you get the skunk guts off any painted areas or it will eat through the paint in no time.
