Some detectors can send signals to fake out detectors detecting your detector. But if it is in the window and in plain site, they could of course see it and cite you then.

mmmm...in Ontario 30mph over gets your car impounded, lose your license for 10 days about $2K to get your car out of hawk and up to a $10K fine with your automatic court date. All of this by the side of the road by the local LEO, no judge no jury. I chalk up the radar detector to " how many tickets has it saved me from" tabulate the savings and realize the $100 is exactly that, charitable donation to the cops fund and move along. Sucks but it could have been a whole lot worse. Have you contacted the manufacturer yet for their response?

I did have it displayed but he wouldn't have been able to see it was on (due to the location I had it displayed) I got used to being in the vette (tinted 20% all around). In the future I won't use it in VI the 100 dollars won't break me but I would prefer to choose who I give my money to.

I'm heading down Tulsa this weekend for a wedding. Any other dumb *** OK laws I need to know about?
I was headed east in December, came on the toll booth on I-44...maybe 30(?) miles from OK/MO border. (In my truck, not the Vette).

That day they had some sort of program going on because I had been seeing troopers all over the place all the way from OKC, 20 or more. At the toll booth if you have Pikepass you go straight through, if you pay the toll you stay right. Just before the booth there were a couple cops in the middle, I figured they were waiting for someone to blow through the pikepass. Paid my toll, which took several minutes. Soon as I was through here's Officer Friendly with the lights.

He claimed I didn't use a turn signal to head to the toll booth - I may not have, I can't recall but it's almost like the right lane leads there, but I'll give him the benefit of doubt. He also said my right taillight was dim. It was fine but I wasn't going to argue. He checked everything out, gave me a warning notice (no violation) on the taillight and let me go.

I'm really not too put out about it. New York plates probably do catch their eye. He determined I was coming from a job and wasn't a drug smuggler, he wrote a warning which adds to his total and shows he's doing his job. No ticket for the turn signal, and he was polite to me, not a hardass. Other than slowing down my trip by about 10 minutes, it was no problem. Considering there are a few occasional AH's out there, I'm glad I didn't catch one of them instead.

So - when you get to the toll booth - use your turn signal!

State LEOs in OK are pretty cool. I travel the I44 corridor pretty often and have been pulled over for various infractions - maybe as much as 5 mph over the posted 75mph -"no tolerance." If you act right and stay cool you will get a warning. I35 and I44 are major drug routes coming up out of Texas northbound and eastbound. You will see a lot of patrols. I think the State Patrols look for any reason to make a stop just to see whats going on. Radar is Good though!

There's too many states with way too many differing laws. You'd need to have a Cray super-computer for a brain, and a team of expert lawyers in the back seat, to keep track of the hodge-podge of states laws.

It's a very legitimate gripe, IMHO.

I dont know man because when I was driving down to TN I checked the state laws before the drive to see if they were illegal in the states I was driving.

I wasn't complaining, I totally understand why I got the ticket. The main reason I posted this was for anyone else who may happen to have the same radar detector as me to be aware that they may not be protected when and if they were traveling through a state where radar detectors are illegal.

But I had purchased a Cobra XRS 9940 that supposedly detected VG2 and Spectre 1. Now I am not upset for getting a ticket because I shouldn't had it on but I am upset about the product I purchased not performing as advertised. The LEO was nice and I did get to keep my radar detector and now I will be donating about a 100 dollars for my error.

Actually, that's a federal law. No commercial motor vehicle in the US can even posses a radar detector. It doesn't even have to be in use to get written up for it.
