Well I was traveling on I-95N returning from Savannah GA. I was 11 miles into Virginia (Emporia). Passed a trooper and my radar detector went off, I was doing 60 in a 65 so I didn't think too much about it (I know radar detectors are illegal in Virginia). But I had purchased a Cobra XRS 9940 that supposedly detected VG2 and Spectre 1. Now I am not upset for getting a ticket because I shouldn't had it on but I am upset about the product I purchased not performing as advertised. The LEO was nice and I did get to keep my radar detector and now I will be donating about a 100 dollars for my error.
I've heard so many horror stories from VA... I'm glad I live 5000 miles away from there!
So exactly what happened then? Why did he pull you over if you weren't speeding? Or were you, and just thought you weren't? Did you get nailed for having a detector after getting pulled over?
Yeah that sucks! A good family friend is a state trooper and he showed me the goods. They actually have radar detector detectors. Not cool! It adds insult to injury that you weren't even speeding. You must have had one of those "letter of the law" troopers. But on the bright side you got to keep the detector. Lesson learned...don't use the detector in VA...or you too can donate $100 or so to there highway fund.
He detected my radar detector with a detector. I actually was in a Toyota Camry since the weather was bad I was only doing 60 in a 65. Fortunately it was a nonmovement violation so I don't lose any points on my license and my insurance won't go up.
I got a letter from my lawyer that said that the prosecutor wants me to serve 30 days in the county jail the other day for passing the unmarked Trailblazer that had the Chief in it! I was going wayyy faster than i should ve...(around 160ish) Hindsight is 20/20!! Of course im fighting it but- I wish i could just donate $100 -Jason
I bet if you were a Virginia resident, he would have kept the detector.
The 1st thing my cousin told me when I went to Va to visit is before I cross over into Va, put away my detector. Sorry you got popped but technology is on the side of law enforcement not us. Stay within 5 of the posted limit and take your family out with the savings from the purchase of a detector and tickets.
Damn, that sucks. I have got pulled over 3 times in Oklahoma, 5 miles away from Kansas on HW 83 or 54, for having my fog lights on, and it don't think it's fair.
