Don't know why you'd spend money on wiring. There's power available right at the mirror, and also a base for a bracket. I just used a short metal strap painted flat black, and bent to fit. The unit tucks right under the mirror, and there's no wires to route. It does shut off when I put it in reverse, but so far I haven't gone that fast backwards.
I love mine. I have been warned about dozens of traps and unmarked cars that I know I would have been pulled over by. Just remember that with instant on, let some sucker get out in front of you a bit and then pace him. The V1 will pick up the radar when it's turned on to hit that guy and you can slow down in time.
I'm not sure this thing is working. I got it mounted below the rearview mirror and to the drivers side. I went for a drive and got no signals at all for quite a while, then I got one heavy flashing and right away i saw a Bogey as they say. It seemed it should have given a much earlier signal. So I wondered if it was working properly. so I dove through a town that has one of those standing guns that tell you your speed when you enter town and I got nothing. Shouldn't it pick that up, it was flashing my speed?

Any ideas?
Only guessing but those speed signs run on the old X band and hardly any cops use that anymore. The V-1 may have a setting so it doesn't pick up X bands to keep from getting a false everytime you go by a store door opener.
Check you manual and see what it says about the X band and any V-1 settings for it. If you don't have a manual go to their site and you might find and online manual. Some settings may depend on what version you have. On my Bel detector has several settings for X band.
Laser is about the same as instant on radar.....you may get a warning but it will probably be to late unless you area getting hit by a laser beam bouncing off another car. When the laser trips your detector he probably already has a reading. Radar and laser are different. Another story.
P S Radar Roy recommends mounting lower on the windshield, partly to help pick up laser which is normally aimed at your license or head lights. Google Raday Roy if you want a information overload.
