Got the Radar Detector......finally!
However, I have it wired straight into the mirror. It turns on and off with the car. No reason to run wiring in the headliner, down the pillar, and into the fuse box.
EDIT: Come summer time, the suction cups will start crapping out because of the heat. I will be getting this mount: http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...4&dept_id=1610
Note how it tucks the radar detector back nice and clean.

I normally avoid responding to these types of threads like the plague, but I'm going to chime in on this one. I've been a LEO for over 21 years and have used both radar and laser. My department no longer purchases new radar units and is phasing the use of radar out. They are going strictly to laser. The way laser works is you lock onto a specific vehicle looking through a scope in which there is a red dot. The dot is placed on the vehicle in question, you squeeze the trigger and the unit displays a speed and distance. The distance is read in + or - (+ the vehicle is approaching me, - the vehicle is moving away from me). There is no question as to which car I have in my sight or its speed.
In regards to officers basically using their judgement to estimate and cite you for speeding, is true to some extent. However, if I was to walk into court and testify before a judge in my county with no more than my observation, the judge laugh me out of court and dismiss the case. I have heard of such cases holding up in much smaller or rural areas, but of course you also have the right to have the case bound over to state court where again 95% of the judges I've ever had dealings with would through the case out of court.
As far as the legality of using radar and laser jammers ... RADAR JAMMERS ARE ILLEGAL IN 50 STATES. IT IS FEDERAL CRIME TO SELL OR USE SUCH DEVICES. Laser Jammers are LEGAL in the state of Georgia where I am a LEO. However, I can only speak for the state of GA as far as that goes. You may want to speak with your local PD to check the state law where you are. A friend of mine has a laser jammer (I don't recall which brand but will post later when I find out) and wanted me to test it out. So I took my laser and we tested it. These are my findings... The laser jammer transmitter is mounted to the front of his corvette, and when he was coming straight at me, it jammed my laser 100% of the time. However, I was still able to get an accurate reading of speed when the laser struck a position other than head on the vehicle. The larger my angle to position the laser, I was able to hit the side of the car and get an accurate speed about 50% of the time. We then went to an overpass where I was shooting down onto the hood / windshield / roof of the car. There I was able to get a speed reading 100% of the time.
Basically, the jammers work very well if the laser is striking the locale of the jamming signal. If the laser hits from any other angle it is a crap shoot. I have heard of some laser jammers that offer 360 degree protection, but we didn't test that type.
The easiest and best way to avoid a speeding ticket it to simply obey the posted speed limit. The easiest way to get a speeding ticket is to be the car moving in and out of traffic, changing lanes, and drawing attention to the fact that you are moving faster than the surrounding traffic. The myth that I write a certain type, color, make or model vehicle than another is simply that ... a myth. If a group of cars is approaching me, and it is obvious that one car is going much faster than the others in the pack, guess what .... he wins the invitation to court!
Lastly, LEOs do not set speed limits. They merely enforce them. If you do not like the posted limit .... contact your legislators and move to have them changed. It is not the officer's fault that the road is set at 45 and should be posted 60. He must enforce the 45mph. Ranting and carrying on with the officer with this being a speed trap will not change anything. Mothers Against Drunk Driving were able to get the drinking age changed from 18 to 21. Maybe you should start CAST (Corvettes Against Speed Traps) to change the speed limits nationwide.
