I was anxiously awaiting it myself in teh next 12 months, until the economic disaster fell farther and faster than I could have ever dreamed. And, I did what my long time seasoned brokers said ... both a couple of weeks ago and 8 months ago. "Don't get out of the market now...you can't afford it" Well, you can only bleed so much.
Well, I just yesterday told my two "financial wealth managers" (What an oxymoron) to sell and take what is left and put it in cash. No more mutuals, no more bonds, 70% of equities gone except for 3 companies that haven't been hit that hard and have good dividends.
I still have 2 kids at home, but I had them covered but no more...I can envision them home for another 10 years -
Maybe in another 2 or 3 years. I SO WANT to be out of the rat race... People say retirement is hard.. BULL S**T. I know I can be one of the best at doing nothing all day....except what I want to.
Congrats on yur retirement! I am scheduled to go myself September '10. Today while in a meeting my boss stated for all to hear that "You don't have to retire next year" and that they would love for me to stay on longer! They just don't understand!
CONGRATS!!! I'm retiring at the end of May myself after 42 years at the same place. Go to see Social Security this week. Looking forward to it as well...just as weather gets better to get the car out.
Yeah, congrats to you and the upcoming event. I'm looking at doing it myself come Nov 1st when the GAT rate changes. Not an absolute yet, but on the serious side of thinking about it.
Congratulations!! I filed my retirement papers yesterday! I work for the govt. in Ca. and the "governator" furloughed all state workers two days a month (for 18 months but my guess is it will probably get extended) . Essentially a 10% pay cut. Originally I'd planned on working until age 66 but I decided to retire and draw an early (64) social security. I can't wait to not go to work! I'll make more money retired.

Congrats on the pending retirement. I can tell you it is very nice not having to worry where your next paycheck is coming from - the retirement check is deposited right on time.
We are the fortunate few!!! For all the ones that say "I don't know what I'd do if I retired",,,,HA!!! I have an old house I'm rehabbing by myself,,the wife has me putting hardwood floors in ours. Every relative and friend thinks you are always available to help with something!! I don't even have time to work on my vet!!! Don't even want to think about the 34% hit my retirement fund took,, but with a couple of small(and I do mean small) pensions ,SS and a wife still working getting by!! Hope to finish my project this spring,,maybe then I'll have time for my toys.Who knows ,knowing the wife she'll have other plans!!She's a special ed teacher,,at least she's off in the summer. Hope to get some miles in then!! Congrats,,Enjoy life,,,,hope they let you have some time to yourself!!!:ch eers:
Congrads!!! The really cool thing is redefining what a "hobby" is without the context of "job." Been working on it for a year but have yet to master it. Enjoy!!
