People ask to drive my car, and sometimes I let them just to give them a taste. But today I was asking myself and wondering what others would do...
Would you rather let somebody drive your car or wash your car?
I think I would rather somebody drive it. I would be too afraid that they would scratch it while washing it. And I'm not even that picky about washing my car. In the summer I do the 2 bucket method, but this winter I've been taking it to a car wash (presoak, soap, rinse, spot free...no brushing). It is just too cold to wash it by hand right now.
What would you guys rather do if you had to choose one?
Its interesting, because I have willingly shared all my cars for years. But the 6 speed corvettes seem to intimidate people. I can't remember being asked to drive one (leaving out my mechanic, etc).
And I agree, I never let anyone wash it without my participation (not just supervision, participation).

Most people I know would rather go for a ride then drive it, one or two people have asked to drive it and I let them because they also owned high performance sport cars. But I was with them.
As for washing that would all depend on what she is/isn't wearing.
I am the only one that washes my car and its by hand, when it comes to driving, I only let other people drive it if I'm in the co pilot seat!!! (including the wife)
Out here, there's a car wash place near that does the hand washes inside of a tunnel type process. They do a good job. The only people who've driven my car, one was my son when I was giving him my '99 last year so I certainly trusted him driving the '07. My carpooler has driven both and one guy at work who always had a dream to drive one. I allowed him to drive both of them briefly. Each time coming back with a huge smile. His story was something about a girl once when he was young who went out with with some other guy other than him because this other guy had a Corvette. Turned out, this other guy had rented one just so he could get the girl. Anyway, he wanted to find out what was so special. He was styling when he drove mine. Lots of other guys at work have asked, but nope...not happening.
Neither. Once you give your keys to someone, they have complete control (or loss of control) over your property. I have too much invested to hand my keys over to someone. A friend of mine use to ask me all the time if he could drive my blown/nitroused Camaro and I knew if I handed him the keys, that would be it. Everything he ever touched was destroyed and my car would've been on that list too.
Family is a different story though. I let my brother and dad drive but that's pretty rare. They drove a total of 3 or 4 times.

It's kind of funny - now that I work at Xtreme Motorsports, I've become a lot less fussy about my car. It's not that I don't care about it - I've come to realize that it's something to enjoy, and not something to be obsessive about. I've let people that I trust drive it, co-workers, etc.
I am the only one that washes it or details it. That's the way it will always be, too.
The other funny thing is that the black car is my pride and joy, but that's the one I let people drive. My Pace Car is a great low mileage car, but everyone seems afraid to touch it - and they shy away from it.
