If you are designing a garage for a lift figure at least 11' 6" to the ceiling. You can use a lift with a ceiling height as low as 9' if you use a roll around mechanics chair. The garage door opener may need attention though.
Also, existing normal 4" concrete is OK for four post lifts, but for twin posts you should create a concrete footing (12-16") for the anchor bolts to be safe. Or, in new construction just thickening the 4" slab at the lift base locations to 12-16" is satisfactory.
worldtraveler, look up the specs by the lift suppliers on the net. They will show the clearances you need. Also, most lifts can have their pumps installed at either end of the lift, and this allows you to mount the pump away from one wall, left or right. My lift is close to the right garage wall, and my pump is at the left front of the lift.

$2,133.00 delivered with casters, drip pans, and jack plate. You can get the D-7 model with same options for $1,933.00.
Mine was $1895 delivered with drip/casters/jack plate and they threw in the 8 gal oil draining funnel and container. From GES
I heard Costco was selling these for $1695 recently.
I had a local welder build me a 4" dropped jack plate (just 1/4" x 6 " channel with angle welded for $40. This allowed be to get bottle jacks under the suspension lift point on my Vette. ]
Tip* I painted a red reference line on the ramp so when I drive the Vette on the lift I just open the door a little and line up the indent in the sill with the red line for perfect positioning easy.

Mine had a couple of scratches on it from shipping so the company is sending me an extra can of touch up paint, an 8 gallon rolling oil drain and a set of aluminum ramps. I noticed you garage floor in the picture, is it tiled or is that epoxy paint? I plan on doing my garage floor once it warms up. Oh and good idea about the mark on the runway I plan on marking the lock on the post so I know how high I can go when raising the car up.
Epoxy. The Aluminum ramps are nice just not worth $300 to me.
What brand did you use and how is it holding up. The ramps are not worth $300.00 to me either but if they are going to give them to me for free due to some scratches on the lift I will take them.

I had mine professionally done with epoxy and polyurethane sealer. Cost about $2.50 re sq. ft.
I did a garage awhile back with the system from home depot for about $200 for a 2 1/2 car garage. Held up OK but not quite as well.
