Well I have not posed a question or idea in a while but I have
been thinking.
Over on our sister forum ( C-6 Forum ) right now they are having a big blow over the Z-51 badge and starting a Z-51 Club.
On our own forum it's decals on the C-5.

I first believe that if you want to mess up your vette it's your
business.But.........

The reason that cheap little things are placed on these vettes
is for personal expression but all so these people will be noticed.
Yes they go out of their way..

I have seen this trait on a variety of cars, cheap little notions
applied to cars, that are really not special or original--just show.
You know colored lug nuts, badges, decals etc...Usually these
folks won't spend real dough to make a statement.

Well, I have never known one of these people so I don't
understand their motavation. I guess it is some sort of self
expression that I do not understand. Taking a perfectly good
vette and trashing it up on the cheap. I am not a elite, just
confused by this preoccupation with the trivial.
Should the C-5 Forum start a Z-51 Club????????

Wow! ,and I was thinking my diamond shaped,stick-on ,chrome fender vents were a little too "showy"
(they kinda go with my fuzzy dice on the rearview)

If those things help a guy enjoy his car than go for it. I don't particularly like all of it I see, but to each his own!

I don't understand why someone else personalizing their car would bother anyone. If someone wants to place a sticker or a decal, on their car - why would I care or let it bother me?

Last time I checked - we still have the freedom to express ourselves in any manner we see fit - as long as it doesn't harm someone else.

I see a lot of things that people do to their cars that I don't agree with - or would do myself. Since when do any of us have to conform to someone elses idea of what is good taste?

If I chose to paint my car neon green and put pink polka dots on it - if that's what makes me happy and it isn't bringing harm to anyone else, why would any of you care? I didn't ask for money or opinions, and I will do what I want.

I think that it seems that if more than one person modifies their car in some manner that is popular at the moment, it gives validation to the rest who feel compelled to jump on the band wagon. If for example, you buy the same wheels I have - then you've validated my choice....and I guess to some that's important.

Dare to be different.....

I haven't spent much time on this forum over the past year or more, but I see there still is that click of purists that take issue with anything and everything if it didn't come from the factory that way.

I'll admit that some stuff is pretty tasteless, like the Kenworth exhaust, but a few stickers or badges or a black Carravagio spoiler on a white car, who really cares? A lot more important things to worry about, especially in these tough economic times. I'd worry about my family before I spent much thought on what someone does to their car.

Finally, I would say the Corvette is unique enough on it's own that it needs very little to stand out in a crowd.

The main reason I love this forum so much is the variety and creativity of the members. Some of which are extremely talented. Don't get me wrong, I salivate over the Superchargers, turbos and all the other performance packages out there. But, without all the personal mods and bling like under hood painting, I wouldn't spend nearly as much time here. That said, please don't paint your vette Green with polka dots.

I am baffled by this behavior. Life is short. Don't waste it worrying about how some other person has altered their personal property.

Making your car personal is what it is all about. Remember your first car. I grew up in a wrecking yard and we saw anything and everything come through there. Some things I see today I think are cool others not so cool. My vette has had very little done in the way of mods but I really, really like it. It is mine and that is the coolest ever.
The thing is to do what you like and enjoy your vette or your gremlin for that matter.

I hear you, and some things mean something else to others. The good news is we all like different things and just owning a vette in my opinion groups us all together.

Being me, I normally remove all the badges off all my cars. I've even taking the badges off my DD. It just looks cleaner that way.
