A friend of mine has a 97 vert with this unusual problem . She was driving it the other day and the headlights came on and raised on their own. Didnt think much of it until this morning . Sometime last night while the car was parked in the garage it must have done it again cause they were UP and the battery was drained !
Anyone have something like this happen to them ? Any advice for her ?
sounds like a short circuit. The most likely problem is a short in the headlight switch on the steering column. It's a common thing to happen especially on older cars.
Unusual symptoms but a common problem. Its probably the turn signal switch
The other possibility is the headlamp control module. There are a few failures reported here. The fact that its only one headlight thats opening may mean the problem lies there. The T/S switch sends a signal to both headlights but that signal splits to the individual lights in the module. Follow my logic?
It would also be worth checking the grounds and make sure they are clean and tight. The headlight ground is just behind the passenger side headlight on the frame.
Not sure if these diagrams will help you but you can see the components in the system that might affect the headlight
