key question

i need another key and remote for my 01 , what should expect to pay, and are there other places than my dealer ?

Dealer is the only one with the code. $40-50 for key, $70-80 for key fob.

You can measure your resistor pellet and buy a key blank on the internet, then anyone can cut it for you (if you have another key).

Check Frictner's or Gene for a fob (probably around $50). Or try to buy one from Ebay ($35).

I paid $35 for a key from a Chevy Dealer several years ago.

I bought a key on ebay from a guy for my 98 and all i did was send him the OhM reading and he sent me the key,it was 10.00. Home Depot cut it for free because they didnt have a blank key to charge me for

Keys can be found at Ecklers for $14.99 you can also find them on ebay pretty cheap. You can find the key fobs also on ebay for around $15, (If you can't I have a #1 and a #2 I'll sell you for "$30 shipped for the pair, I don't know if they are new or not but they look it, but you should be able to find them on ebay cheap.)

Just use a meter across the chip on your current key and measure the resistance. (Put you meter to measure OHM's, then put one lead on one side of the key, on the chip and put the other lead on the other side of the key on the chip and read the meter)

VATS #, Resistance in ohms

VATS #1 392 ohms
VATS #2 523 ohms
VATS #3 681 ohms
VATS #4 887 ohms
VATS #5 1.13k ohms
VATS #6 1.47k ohms
VATS #7 1.87k ohms
VATS #8 2.37k ohms
VATS #9 3.01k ohms
VATS #10 3.74k ohms
VATS #11 4.75k ohms
VATS #12 6.04k ohms
VATS #13 7.50k ohms
VATS #14 9.53k ohms
VATS #15 11.80k ohms

Now there is a variation + or - about 5%, Once you get the VATS # order the key from Ecklers or find one on ebay. Once you get it take it to a locksmith to get it cut.
