Going to get my car smogged tomorrow for the new owner. anything I can do to prepare. I changed the oil yesterday, put a bottle of Techron a couple of fillups ago. I am planning on driving the car 30 minutes before the test. Any other suggestions.
it has a mild cam 218/226 .563”/.570” 116LSA with the Maggie blower & LT headers, Xpipe, Corsa exhaust with the stock cats still installed.
The last smog test done 10 months ago had one of the HC levels at the max.
@15mph 1743 rpms max 54 meas 51
@25mph 1992 rpms max 37 meas 37
All the rest were nowhere close to the max. No other changes to the engine all the same parts. I just want to make sure I do go over on the HC this time.
I am getting tested at a dealership that said just make sure the car will pass the sniff test. I am trying to make sure I hold up my end of the bargain.
You'd better pray the dealership tech doesn't notice the LTs. They are illegal in CA. Other than that, I'm not sure what else you can try, other than the additive that Doug mentioned.
10%-15% of xylene in your tank and HC goes down to minuscule amounts. It worked every time on my 944's that were a pig on emissions.
It's available at any house paint store. And before a bunch of people start barking about putting 'junk' in your tank... xylene is the one ingredients used in octane boosters that does the boosting. (you can search on 'home made octane boosters' and check it out)
That smog guys is risking a lot. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad you found someone who will look the other way, but once that guy is gone, so may be your free pass on the visual.

....been there, done that with my 68.....
I know him personally. He's a very good friend. So yes he is risking alot, but I asked him many times if it's a problem & he said no.
