Default Another Front Spoiler Question

What do you do if you put an aftermarket front spoiler on? Would you leave the center one and remove the sides? Talking about the three piece OEM front spoilers.

Did not want to hijack the other thread about "front spoilers"

If you install an aftermarket spoiler, I don't see why you would leave the factory spoiler on, unless the factory spoiler is lower.

I would not put an aftermarket spoiler on if it is any lower than the factory spoiler. That is, if you are actually going to drive the car on the street.
The factory spoilers are low enough that they will eventually drag somewhere, and they are cheap and easily replaced.

Ok, so in other words not only the sides you can remove, but the middle too?. On the directions of my new spoiler it clearly shows cutting a notch into the sides for it to fit (this is why I am going to remove them) but it says nothing about the middle and I am concerned about this since the factory center spoiler throws air upward. Maybe I'll just leave that on. It doesn't interfere with the aftermarket, and the new spoiler is almost as low as the factory. But that's ok too. I also installed the rail savers

It really depends on what front spoiler you use ? More details would be helpful

I have this piece on my car. Bought it from ACI. I still have the 3 factory pieces on the car. Can't find the install instructions, but I think it said to leave the factory spoilers on the car.

Thanks, I do have the instructions and it clearly states that you need to "notch" out the side spoilers so the unit can fit. It does not say anything about keeping them on or off for that matter. Did you notch the side spoilers? Did you leave all three pieces on? My main reason and concern is because my side pieces where damaged and the center one was not in my recent car accident. So I am wondering if I could leave out the sides and just keep the center part. So If you have your center one still one the car this would be my answer. Thanks so much!

I envisioned that it would be a solid spoiler in front of the factory spoiler. Now that I see it has center openings in front of the factory spoiler, I would say you still need the factory spoiler to direct the airflow up to the radiator as designed. The rest of the spoiler is solid, and would be blocking the side pieces, so the factory side pieces are probably no longer functional.

Don, I did not notch the side factory pieces when I installed the ACI one. Don't recall seeing that in the instructions. As I keep all literature on the parts I buy, I am going to search all this and see if I can find the directions and let you know. For some reason, I feel that the factory pieces are needed for air control under the car. I could be wrong, but seem to remember reading that. Be careful with the spoiler. Have had mine repainted from hitting parking curbs. Not hard to do if you are not paying attention.

Gene

My spoiler does not block the 2 side pieces of the factory one.

I'll double check on the instructions too. They are at the auto body shop. My hood finally came in and now everything can be put together!
I'll get back to this post tomorrow! Thanks for your help in this Gene

Ok, I'm a real a##, this is my new spoiler:
http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...4&dept_id=1353
It had been so long that I ordered it I had forgotten! I looked at the instruction sheet. It does not say to remove or Keep the factory spoilers. Just to notch out the side spoilers so it can fit properly. From hearing though what these spoilers do, I will buy the side spoilers and do as the instructions say. I believe this is the best way to go.
Thank you all for your advice in this!

Good luck with the spoiler. I haven't found the instructions yet. My son may have them. Good to see you got the hood. When I received mine, I installed it without paint and drove the car several weeks. Quite a few people liked the contrast (black hood on silver car). Almost left it that way, but glad I had it painted. You'll be well pleased once everything is complete. Be like a new car.

leave the middle spoiler or you will overheat....its there to shove air UP into your radiator section....try removing it and watch yoru temps...they will go up. You can remmove the sides if you want

Correct. Without the factory center air dam, air will not go up to the radiator.

Some other advice if you dont mind. DO NOT USE double sided sticky tape, screw that splitter into place.

I've wondered if anyone sells a graphite front spoiler like on the C6.R. Be nice for track days. Mid-American does not.
