Tom (nascar57) and I discussed it but we would have to sell the complete center console to do it.. Any "kit" we could put together would be easier and cheaper for you just to order on your own my friend.

We could certainly mod a console for anyone if they wanted to send theirs to one of us. Contact JW Motoring and ask him about it, he'll forward it to one of us and we can work up a qoute.

Fair enough. I want to do something like this for my car. It won't be done right now because I have a lot higher priorities to deal with, but at some point maybe next month!

Ordered some of that flexible LED strip, and picked up a NC push button switch at the electronics store today (though I think it may be a tad too big). Can't wait to give this a try!

You'll like doing it and it's a very functional mod!

I put some silver paint in the countersunk holes to see if that'll improve the (already awesome) light coming out, since the led's are pretty well recessed in there. I'm waiting to see how some adhesive I had will hold in a test piece, and if it looks promising I'll glue down the LED strip soon. Still trying to figure out the best place to put the switch I picked up, thinking I may stop by Radio Shack and see what they have to offer in other styles of switch.

I'm already planning on picking up a few more strips of this led strip setup for the footwell lighting and to try my hand at making that courtesy light setup in place of the door's reflector.

flaagan: nice setup.

I'm going to do mine but instead of an LED strip (which i think is a little bright for this purpose) I have a pack of four PLCC2 surface mount LEDs with a 170 degree viewing angle

Used some silicon sealant to hold the strip down. I had to do it in ~3" segments as it would move around any more than that. Each section took about an hour to dry, kept busy with other things.

I used some aluminum backed tape to hold down the wiring. I've used this before for similar purposes on the cuda I restored and it worked out great.

I had to sand off a bit of the latch corner so it would work with where I put the switch, but...

... as you can see, the switch location was perfect.

Sorry for the blurry image, my phone's camera doesn't like taking photos of bright objects in low-light settings.

The only things not shown was that I ended up drilling a hole in the lid near the edge so that closing it down wouldn't crimp the cable. Also I goofed with the original hole location I put into the console (not the lid), and ended up drilling one beneath where the gas cap switch is in order to easily route the wiring to under to where the accessory charger wiring is located, and I'm pulling power off of that.

Overall, I could have done a few things a bit cleaner, but I'm happy with the results, and it served as good practice for doing the footwells and figuring out what I'm going to do for the door courtesy light idea.

Thanks guys!

If anyone is thinking of doing this and wants a better shot of how I ran the wiring from the lid to the console, let me know and I'll try to get a better shot of it.

Hi do you think this would work on a C6. I don't recall if the 12v aux power port in the console was always powered in my C5. The C6 constantly has power so Im worried I might drain the battery , but a switch should eliminate this right?

Yes on both counts, I haven't seen the underside of the lid on the C6 but you shouldn't have a problem and as you assumed the switch will turn the power off and on.

Thanks Tim. Yes the lids are pretty similar. The c6 also has the blk plastic panel that you can remove on the underside. The only thing I have to decide is where to place the roller switch you suggested. Do you by chance have any close ups of the switch and where you installed it? Is it actually on the lid assembly or the console base?
thanks again!

Sorry, no I didn't take any close ups, check out post 15 and then post 1 again... that should explain it pretty well. My switch has a lever only with no roller ball on the end of it.
