I am going get my windshield tinted on Thursday with 50% and my other windows are already 20% and I have not been stopped for the darkness of my tint once. I have had 50% tint on my previous vehicle which was a 2001 Tahoe and it also had 20% tint on the other windows and was never stopped while having it.
To answer your question yes with documentation from a doctor your wife and son can get tint on their windshields legally. There is just some sort of paperwork that they must have in their vehicle at all times to show why they have the tint. To finish this off we all know that some things that we do are not legal and to each his own. So lets not state the obvious about something being illegal and just try to answer the question that is posted in the thread.
THANKS!! I will inquire at the Retina Foundation about the paperwork. This would be a lifesaver for them....I honestly had never thought to ask about it. Thanks!
Not a problem man I am happy to know that even though that I am still a "new guy" compared to those who have been here for over a decade but I guess we all bring a little something to the table in different aspects of this forum.

This probably varies state by state. In California State law, a doctor's note will only get you a "removable" tint that can be taken off when it is dark. Think about the tint films that are held on by suction cups. Nice!
Really, from a medical/legal point of view there is very slim justification for a tint for medical reasons. I mean really, get some sunglasses, perscription even if you need it. The only exception I can think of is inability to wear sunglasses, facial deformity, facial neuropathy... something like that. But, I cant say all my windows are tinted to state specs either though
Well as I stated before I had tint all the way around on my Tahoe that I owned before my C5 and was never stopped for tint, speeding yes but tint no. I am sorry to hear the police in Lacombe, LA are sticklers for something as petty as tint but here in Lafayette they are not as strict.
