Default Tinted Windshield

Goin to the tint shop tomorrow. Quick question, can someone throw up some pics of the view looking out of a tinted windshield. I am going to use the lightest film he has which is %50 to cut down on glare and UV damage. Thanks.

Incase you dont know, tinting a windshield is extremly illegal no matter what film is used. If anything I would just tint the first couple of inches from the top of the windshiled down. Not to mention if you are ever in any type of accident the windshield will be used as the cause and you being at fault.

If you go 50% it will be fine i have 35% on the viper and can see just fine i do have HID headlights on the car which are pretty bright so it helps alot. If you go 50% it will be fine to see out of and block the uv rays. I say go for it man i have had a cobra with 35% up the front winshield and it was dark because the head light and fog lights were tinted.

I agree the tint looks kinda cool on the Viper, but you would hardly make it out of your driveway in Washington without getting pulled over by the Troopers with the front tinted. I think the legal limit here is the top 4 or 5 inches of the windshield can be tinted. I didnt tint mine, just the rear and sides and love how it is.

Plus, with the Vette's notoriously bad headlights how would you possible see at night with the whole windshield tinted?

I have 35% on my windshield with a %5 sunban ontop of that. The cops do notice my vehicle is tinted especially from the windshield. When they have approached me they usually point out the sunban and not really notice the entire windshield being tinted probably because of it's angle. I have no problems at all... I have HID fog lights and headlights right now and I think it looks great from far away and when driving. Honestly you won't notice much with pictures or a video from the drivers seat with a windshield tinted, biggest difference is I don't need sunglasses anymore while driving, and other drivers can't see you at all.

When I live in GA - we use to get the whole windshield tinted with 50% then a 5% top strip so that the windshield didn't look tinted. I haven't tried it up here in Wisconsin.

I drove my '97 Formula with 50% full winshield for 8 years and never was questioned my LEOs, even when being pulled over for other "issues". I think the trick was to have the stock tint on the top still there. They probably saw that strip which is darker than the 50% and didn't question the rest of the window.

It's hard to tint you windshield in Texas or any other state that has a state inspection stiker and a regsitration stiker on the inside of the car. How every I had mine done years ago on my 99 vette, all I did was cut places for the stikers, Keeps the car cooler inside and looks great. Sorry no picks, looks the same as looking through the back or side glasses. GO FOR IT.

If heat and UV protection are your only concerns (as opposed to wanting tinting for "cosmetic" reasons), a company called Llumar makes a film called "Air Blue" the blocks 43% of heat transmission and 99% of UV, while appearing virtually clear. As long as the combined visual light transmission of your windshield plus the film doesn't fall below 70%, it's legal in all 50 states. You might want to check if any tint shops in your area carry the stuff. It's becoming very popular here in Hawaii where we have some pretty strong sunshine to contend with!

You have a "doctor's note?" Can you get around the laws against tinting with a doctor's note?

My reason for asking is that my wife and oldest son have an eye disease called "Retinitis Pigmentosa" (RP) that makes them both VERY sensitive to glare/bright light. My wife hasn't driven at night in over 7 years because of night blindness and she wears her sunglasses in the car at night (in the day too!) because of the glare from oncoming cars.

I would love to hear from anyone that knows if I can get a note from our retinal specialist doctor that would allow us to tint the windshield.

Thanks.

I am going get my windshield tinted on Thursday with 50% and my other windows are already 20% and I have not been stopped for the darkness of my tint once. I have had 50% tint on my previous vehicle which was a 2001 Tahoe and it also had 20% tint on the other windows and was never stopped while having it.

To answer your question yes with documentation from a doctor your wife and son can get tint on their windshields legally. There is just some sort of paperwork that they must have in their vehicle at all times to show why they have the tint. To finish this off we all know that some things that we do are not legal and to each his own. So lets not state the obvious about something being illegal and just try to answer the question that is posted in the thread.
