Default Pull Key Wait 10 seconds...

Ya so I started up the car today from a friends house and all the sudden that message appeared on the read out. So I turned the car off and did what it said. Started back up and I was on my way home. Any comments on what this may be. I was reading it might be something to do with the column lock. I had the dealer do the recall so maybe something is wrong? Or could that be related to any other things? Thanks.

It can also be that the resistor in the key is dirty. Clean it or try a spare and see if it comes back.

The same thing happened to me once. I stalled the car at an intersection ( 1st day I had it after not driving a manual trans for about 18 years ) and when I tried to re-start it told me the same thing. I thought it was Chevrolets way of punishing those that can't drive a 6 speed. I never gave it a 2nd thought and it hasn't happened since

It could be a dirty resistor pellet on the key but more likely its the column lock issue

Do you have a column lock bypass fitted. If not fit one soonest or you may end up on a flatbed to the dealer

CLB is a simple mod costs $50 and will save you certain grief.

Corvettes of Houston sell them.

BTW its worth filling out your profile and that way you get specific advice. Your model and year is significant in this case.

same thing happened to me a couple of months ago when i had some exhaust work done. the mechanic took it off the lift backed it out, shut it won and turned in the paperwork for the job. when i paid and went to the car, started it up, and it dies. looked at the DIC and got the same message. pulled the key, waited, started right up and haven't had a problem since. best guess i could make was the the mechanic had the VAT chip covered with his fingers, ot got them really dirty, etc. my car had had the lock recall performed also, so i really haven't had a second thought about it. i did however go to the corvettes of houston website and order a bypass kit to keep in the car, just in case, lol!!

Best advice is get a column lock bypass kit (can be had from Thunder Racing, Corvettes of Houston, etc.), and get it installed. Then you won't have to worry about that message again.

Installing a CLB will not prevent the Pull Key Wait 10 sec problem in all cases - it should prevent you from being stranded due to Service Column Lock message though
