After 40+ years of wanting my dream car, I finally got it. A '01 6 speed black vert with low mileage in great condition. I 've wanted one but there was always something else to be paid, kids braces, college, etc. My wife convinced to take the big step. She said "You need to make your dreams come true, so just get it", so I did. But what do tell all those people who keep asking "Are you going thru a mid-life crisis"? I'm not--I'm very happy with my life. How do you respond or should I just smile and let them eat Goodyear smoke?
Oh many of us guys and gals hear that old statement, I know I have from a few people.. I just tell them No I'm not, I'm financially secure enough to purchase a nice Corvette now that we are empty nesters. Hey consider why they are asking, hum. I asked one person if they wanted a ride in the passenger seat, ; that works also... Congrats and safe driving...
I'd say ,,I HOPE SO,,'cause I'm 62!! Most didn't bother,,because I've always had motorcycles and automotive toys at 1 time or another. When I got my FRC,,I'd already had my shark for 10 years!! Everybody knows I'm not growing up anytime soon!! Kids are grown up,,and I'm not getting any younger!!

I got my first Vette in my mid 40s. I heard the mid life crisis and small body parts comments. I just laughed them off and told them I couldn't afford one until now.
I wanted one since I was 10 years old. Eight years of Vette ownership later, I am still smiling.

My response to the mid-life crisis question is to simply smile and walk away. It's a stupid question, generally asked with malice intended....and it isn't worth dignifying the question with any reply.
There are many of us with similar stories - who had to wait until the planets, the sun and the stars were in perfect alignment to afford/justify something like a Corvette. I wish you miles and miles of smiles with your car.
I understand where you are at, same here waited 30 years and finally no more payments outgoings etc etc, my wife did the same thing recently, "now" was the time, good for you!!!
I purchased my Corvette in 2000 at the age of 51. I was still a police officer at the time and heard the "You must be taking bribes." comment on many occasions from my neighbors and friends. I'd always wanted a Vette and with the kids grown and gone, it was an opportunity to make my dream come true.
I'm 60-years old now and retired. Over the years, I've been kicked, punched, spit upon, and called every name in the book. I was wounded in Vietnam and spent nearly 6 months in the hospital. To be frank, I don't give a damn about what other people say or think about my car. I don't have to prove anything to anyone. I figure that most of the people who make comments wish they could own one. The bottom line is I love my car, and it puts a smile on my face when I drive it.
