I tried posting this over in the Z06 section but haven't had any replies.

This made me think about getting an in-car security camera installed if possible. I read that a person with a Hummer got keyed and he had cameras in the mirrors to catch the person that did it. Does anyone here have an in-car security system or mirror system? If so what do you recommend?

Don't recall seeing anyone post about having such a system in their Corvette. Guess it would be good for catching vandals, if they do something to the car that is within the view of the camera.

It looks like the Hummer was parked in a handicap slot. I wonder if it didn't have a permit and the old guy was retaliating.
Still, I wouldn't lose any sleep over beating the crap out him for keying my car.

It dosen't matter if it was parked in a handicapped spot without a tag. What he did was wrong. If it's parked in a handicapped spot without a tag call the cops and have the car ticketed. No one has the right to do that to anyone else's property.
The guy was wrong and needs to be charged and made to pay for the damage.
I actually saw this on the news several months ago and went looking. Only thing I could find though was something like this: http://www.4hiddenspycameras.com/caralwicaand.html
Lots of places on the web sell it, but never really looked in to it much since I have a viper that cost an arm and a leg and don't want to just throw it out.
Actually, building a system would not be all that difficult. There are some really tiny cameras out now and they are powered by 12 volt. A small computer's power supply can be modified to 12 volt as well. A 4 or 8 port video capture card and software allows you to activate the recording when there is motion within a designated area in the camera view, which you choose and set.
Or, Get one of these or take a look around at the stuff, then modify to 12v (easy to do), run your concealed cameras, and you are all set.
In fact Police car 'dash-cams' are all 12 v based systems so it could easily be done. Police sting "bait cars" use this sort of stuff all the time.....
Even with one of these devices installed,I would think our cars are too low to be able to see anyone vandalizing or keying our cars.....the camera would probably be showing the person's kneecaps
I've got one of those installed - seemed like a good addition to a vert. The sensitivity is adjustable, but it wouldn't be practical to have it set to the level that someone just standing or walking by your car would set it off. Mine is set so it will go off if someone presses their face to the driver or passenger window glass, or attempts to reach in when the top is down.
"Financial stressors" induced the old coot to do it, eh? B.S. He's probably one of the "green" environmental whack jobs who has a vendetta against the big, bad Hummers. What a creep.
One day after golfing, I found someone had hit the back quarter of my vette with something. It was parked in a corner by itself, so someone went out of their way to do it. Fortunately I was able to machine buff if all out.
