If I was going to do that, and it has kept me up at night, it would be my 03 Z + $20K+ for a mint C6 Z. Why not a newer Z?

either:
1. You're going through "Mental Pause" or
2. You really do have a small Pen*s and need to make up for it.

I've had several P-cars. They are GREAT cars.. just expensive to maintain and pretty difficult to make minor mods on.
If you buy it.. you drive it that way... OR.. you spend butt-loads of money to mod it.

Nah, you're not nuts. You appear to have more money than sense, but you're not nuts. Nuts would be trading your Z and $25k for a...I dunno...Town & Country minivan or something.

Porsches are very nice, but I hate convertibles and love torque. To each their own.

I say get the porsche because if you are thinking about the trade you can not appreciate the z06 or drive it like it can be driven, so you won't know the difference.

You are nuts! The Porsche is ugly and it is not as fast as the Z06! The 911 WILL BE a maintenance nightmare.

Try this technique: Keep the Z and buy the 911 Cab for your wife or girlfriend. (I bought the wife a Boxster S).

If you absolutely must have a Porshe for yourself, the only ones that would approach the performance of your Z would be a 911 Turbo or 911GT3. Are you sure you'd be happy with a regular 911 after driving a Z? Even a Carrera S would be a huge step back in performance, and a convertible?

You did say this was for your wife, right?

Disagree with maintenance comments above. I own two German and two American cars, and there's no comparison in quality or engineering. The Germans are engineers. It's what they do.
My wife's Boxster is same model year as my Z, has similar mileage, and I've spent way less on maintenance (20k service intervals) and repairs.

So, you're not crazy for wanting the Porsche (except for the convertible part), but you'd be insane for trading your Z for it.

Just FYI...55k for that vehical is around 10k too much. Its a buyers market with those cars these days and thats the overpriced KKB price. You would not be nuts for trading the Z..but you would be nuts paying that much.

Maybe they USED to be engineers, but I don't think this is true today.

I can't tell you the small common issues I had on my wonderfully German engineered E39 BMW. Nothing like having interior door handles break off in your hand, plastic (now that is cheap!) water pump impeller blades breaking at 60k miles and taking out your cooling system, and the list goes on

German engineering my a$$.

I think between two Z06's I have only had to replace two batteries, an oil pressure sender, and a headlight gear!

P cars are nice (I would gnaw my arm off for a 993 Turbo S), but I highly doubt you will pay reasonable prices for parts and labor if something needs to be fixed outside of warranty

I have a better idea for you. Take the $25K and use it to performance mod your 04 Z. If you spend the money wisely you will be able to out run just about anything on the road, including turbo Porsche and Ferrari's.

The thing that has always endeared me to the Corvette is the effectiveness of the platform in delivering world class performance at a fraction of what comparable performance alternatives go for. Dollar for dollar it's really hard to beat a Corvette. And it has been thoughtfully designed to enable absolutely outrageous performance improvement through aftermarket modifications.

Just say NO to the whole idea of spending more money on a Porsche. You can go much faster for less in a Vette.
